Project Accounting Manager

We are seeking an experiencedManager, Project Accounting to lead project accounting operations and oversee the financial management of large-scale capital and construction-related projects. This individual will manage a team of project accountants while partnering closely with Finance, FP&A, Project Management, Operations, and Procurement to ensure accurate budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle. Responsibilities Lead and mentor a team of Project Accountants, providing guidance and oversight for project financial activities. Manage project budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial performance reporting. Partner with FP&A to ensure capital expenditures, project labor, and operating costs are accurately recorded and reported. Review project forecasts and identify financial risks while recommending mitigation strategies. Collaborate with project managers, estimators, procurement, and operations to support budgeting, scheduling, and project execution. Monitor project performance to ensure budgets, timelines, and financial objectives are achieved. Develop and maintain recurring project status reports for executive leadership and key stakeholders. Oversee project expense tracking and financial reporting throughout project development and completion. Support budgeting and cost estimating for future projects. Maintain cost databases and historical project data to improve future estimating accuracy. Review weekly and monthly project cost reports, labor tracking, and resource planning. Manage project invoices, payment applications, contract compliance, cost coding, and capital versus expense classifications. Review contractor payment applications, schedules of values, lien waivers, and supporting documentation. Identify opportunities to improve project accounting processes, reporting, and financial controls. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field. CPA preferred. Minimum of five years of project or construction accounting experience supporting capital or construction projects. Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred. Strong knowledge of project budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, and financial reporting. Experience supporting construction, hospitality, retail, entertainment, manufacturing, or other project-based environments. Experience reviewing contracts, payment applications, cost coding, and project invoicing. Strong understanding of capital projects and project lifecycle accounting. Experience with ERP systems such as Workday or similar financial systems. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyze large data sets and develop meaningful financial reports. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present financial information to leadership. Ability to build strong relationships across Finance, Operations, Project Management, and external vendors. Experience with project management or cost management software is a plus.
