Plumber Job No: 555638 Work Type: Staff Location: Southern California: Long Beach Appointment Type: Temporary Time Basis: Full Time Categories: Bargaining Unit: Unit 6 - Teamsters Local 2010, Job Search Category / Discipline: Trades Job Summary Under the direction of the Supervising Plumber, this position provides skilled plumbing work in installation, repair, and maintenance of university structures, minor construction and special projects. Key Responsibilities Maintain piping systems including water, gas, air, steam, vacuum, storm drains, waste lines, irrigation systems, and related traps and valves. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance requiring repair or replacement of plumbing parts or equipment when necessary. Test, certify, and repair backflow preventive devices. Ensure tools, materials, and equipment are available for efficient and economical job execution. Assist in all university functions and respond to emergency situations as required. Qualifications High school diploma and journey‑level plumber skills, typically obtained through completion of a plumber apprenticeship program. Valid California driver’s license. City of Long Beach Health Department certificate for Limited Backflow Prevention Device Tester (highly desirable; must be obtained within six months of hiring). Knowledge of the Uniform Plumbing Code and applicable Division of Industrial Safety regulations. Strong command of plumbing trade tools, equipment, and techniques, including reading blueprints and interpreting detailed specifications. Experience operating a backhoe is desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to interact positively with colleagues, customers, and the campus community. Experience in a university or large public institutional setting is preferred. Ability to communicate with a diverse campus community and follow university policies and procedures, including safety, civility, and non‑discrimination.
