Vector Advisory is the partner private equity firms, family offices, and venture investors call when a portfolio company's finance and accounting function needs to be leveled up. Most often, we are brought in by a company's first institutional investor to professionalize the back office: owning the monthly close, building reporting sponsors can trust, converting cash-basis books to accrual, and putting the infrastructure in place for growth and an eventual exit. We also support established sponsors and their portfolio companies across the full lifecycle, from post-close onboarding through exit readiness.

Purpose Statement

Managers scope, lead, and deliver engagements with limited guidance from Directors, own staffing decisions on their engagements, and develop the Senior Consultants and Consultants underneath them. You will be hired against one of two profiles.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities

Profile 1: Technical Accounting. You are the interim controller a sponsor trusts with a complex, multi-entity portfolio company. You lead opening balance sheet builds, cash to accrual conversions, close redesigns, and audit support end to end, and you review the work of others doing the same. Strong technical accountants on this track also review monthly reporting packages and oversee FP&A deliverables.

Profile 2: FP&A and Modeling. You are the modeler other modelers ask for help. You design and own monthly reporting packages, 13-week cash flow forecasts, and three-statement models, and you build ad hoc models from operational data into KPI dashboards that drive sponsor and management decisions.

What You'll Do

• Scope and plan engagements, including budgets and work plans, and manage them to on-time, on-budget delivery
• Own staffing decisions on your engagements and supervise assigned Senior Consultants and Consultants
• Serve as the day-to-day client lead with executive presence in front of C-level personnel and sponsors
• Review deliverables to a client-ready standard before they leave the building
• Manage project workstreams across engagements, including post-close integration
• Identify scope expansion opportunities and support pursuit with Directors
• Lead internal initiatives, including methodology, tooling, and AI enablement

What Good Looks Like

• You think in consequences. You catch the issue in the model, the gap in the close, or the risk in the timeline before the client or sponsor does. Critical thinking is the single most important skill in this role.
• Your communication moves the engagement. Sponsors leave your status calls knowing exactly where things stand. Bad news arrives early with options attached.
• Your engagements deliver on time and on budget, and your team's work needs minimal Director rework.
• Your review standard is the firm's standard. Work leaving your engagements is detailed, accurate, and reliable, and the people you supervise are visibly better than when they started.
• Clients experience your team as a pleasure to work with. You set the tone for client service and check your ego at the door, and your team follows.
• You operate with a growth mindset. You develop yourself and your people, and you look for ways to accelerate growth and scale, for the firm and for our clients.
• Clients expand scope because of work you led.

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in accounting or finance
• 5+ years of overall experience, including 2+ years serving PE-backed portfolio companies in financial reporting, operational accounting, or FP&A
• CPA strongly preferred (Profile 1 especially); CMA, CFA, or MBA also valued
• Hands-on experience with systems such as QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Sage, or Dynamics 365; Power BI or Tableau strongly preferred for Profile 2
• Experience using AI tools such as Claude to accelerate analysis, review, and deliverable development is a plus
• Project management depth: scope, schedule, risk, and stakeholder management
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams and develop junior staff
