Job Summary:
Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) registered nurse (RN) position in Berkeley, California. This role involves providing patient care in a Same Day Surgery/Pre-Operative Unit with occasional on-call shifts and variable start times. The nurse will be responsible for managing patients through recovery, ensuring their safety, comfort, and appropriate discharge planning.

Job Details:

• Schedule: Days shift with occasional on-call shifts, variable start times (latest at 11:00), 4 days per week, with minimum 40 hours per week
• Required Qualifications: Valid California RN license, ACLS certification, BLS certification, 2+ years of nursing experience, experience in inpatient, Phase I PACU, arterial line management, dysrhythmia recognition/management, blood product administration, central line care/management, IV vasopressors, narcotics/opioid analgesics, reversal agents, external ventricular drain (EVD), intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, care of ventilated patients, conscious sedation, post-epidural management, general anesthesia, local anesthesia, monitored anesthesia care (MAC), nerve blocks, spinal anesthesia, malignant hyperthermia protocol, pain assessment and management, PCA pump management, Richmond Agitation Sedation Scale (RASS)
• Preferred Qualifications: Previous charge nurse experience, community hospital experience, trauma level I or II experience, travel experience (if applicable)
• Additional Information: The RN will be floating between the Post Anesthesia Care Unit and Same Day Surgery areas (Phase I and Phase II). Responsibilities include implementing the nursing process, prioritizing patient safety, coordinating care with the healthcare team, and responding to medical emergencies. Clinical judgment, critical thinking, and effective communication are essential for success in this role.
