Commercial Door Technician

This role focuses on installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing commercial and automatic door systems to ensure safe, reliable operation in line with codes and manufacturer standards. You will work with a wide range of door types and components, combining mechanical, electrical, and low-voltage skills to keep systems functioning efficiently and safely.

Responsibilities

• Install, service, and repair commercial and automatic door systems, including overhead, roll-up, sliding, swinging, and revolving doors.
• Adjust and troubleshoot door operators, sensors, and related hardware to ensure smooth and safe operation.
• Perform preventive maintenance and safety checks on doors, operators, and associated building systems.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues involving tracks, rollers, hinges, springs, operators, and hardware.
• Install door hardware, frames, and related components, including basic carpentry and fabrication for framing, adjustments, and retrofits.
• Run low-voltage wiring for door operators, sensors, access control, and safety devices in accordance with electrical codes.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications to plan and execute work accurately.
• Complete work orders, service reports, and other documentation with clear and accurate details.
• Safely handle, move, and position large or heavy door assemblies using appropriate lifting equipment and techniques.
• Coordinate with facilities and safety teams to ensure compliance with building codes, safety standards, and internal requirements.
• Communicate with customers or site contacts to explain issues, recommended solutions, and maintenance needs.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively throughout all tasks.

Essential Skills

• 35 years of experience in mechanical repair or door installation.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Experience with installation and repair of commercial and residential doors, including overhead, roll-up, automatic, sliding, and swinging doors.
• Mechanical troubleshooting skills for tracks, rollers, hinges, springs, operators, and hardware.
• Knowledge of electrical and low-voltage systems for door operators, sensors, access control, and safety devices.
• Ability to diagnose automatic door systems, including ADA operators, motion sensors, and safety beams.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Understanding of building codes and safety standards such as NFPA, ADA, and OSHA.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical wiring, and safety regulations.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to lift more than 50 pounds and work at heights using ladders or scaffolding.
• Safe use of hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Technical training in a mechanical, electrical, or related trade is preferred.
• Carpentry and basic fabrication skills for framing, adjustments, and retrofits.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance on doors, operators, and related building systems.
• Ability to follow electrical codes and low-voltage wiring practices.
• Strong customer communication skills and a service-oriented mindset when explaining issues and solutions.
• Ability to complete detailed documentation, work orders, and service reports accurately.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, onsite role with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You will work in and around commercial facilities, frequently moving between indoor and outdoor areas, mechanical spaces, and building entrances. The position involves regular use of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and lifting devices, as well as working at heights on ladders or scaffolding and handling heavy door assemblies. You can expect a hands-on, physically active environment that emphasizes safety practices, proper use of equipment, and compliance with relevant building and safety codes.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Worth, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr.
