Senior Medical Interpreter - Spanish/English - On Site - DC

Job Title Senior Medical Interpreter – Spanish/English (Full time, On Site, DC) (260001DQ) Job Description The Sr. Interpreter/Translator will provide language interpretation services to patients, families, and staff in critical, acute, or chronic medical situations as needed. They will provide services in person, telephonically, or via video remote to assist patients and families throughout the hospital. This person will assist their manager in program knowledge and initiatives. Responsibilities Eliminate language barriers to patient care: Facilitate communication among patients, families and staff, interpret directly and accurately, manage assignments independently, maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality, remain calm in critical medical or psychological situations, abide by interpreter code of ethics, demonstrate accurate verbal and written communication, provide sight translation and document translation of patient care related materials. Promote appropriate utilization of interpretation services: Educate staff on request process, communicate staff and patient/family needs, work interdepartmentally ensuring cultural and linguistic requirements, advocate for patients/families, provide recommendations to leadership for adequate services. Contribute to a well‑organized program: Coordinate assignments, maintain schedules and logs, document assignments, facilitate coordination among staff, execute administrative tasks, engage multiple hospital systems, assist in project coordination, represent manager in project and organizational commitments, assume additional duties as needed. Qualifications Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree (Required) Master's Degree (Preferred) Minimum Work Experience 3 years as a medical interpreter in clinical setting (Required) Required Skills/Knowledge Bilingual language skills, fluency in English and Spanish, highly proficient in medical terminology.
