Part Time Pharmacy Technician

The Pharmacy Technician performs a variety of technical and supportive pharmacy functions, including medication preparation and dispensing, IV admixture preparation, automated dispensing system management, inventory control, prescription processing, and medication distribution. Key Responsibilities: Prepare and dispense individual medication orders accurately and efficiently. Prepare IV admixtures according to established pharmacy policies and procedures. Perform sterile compounding activities in accordance with applicable USP requirements. Prepare IVPBs, syringes, large-volume IV preparations, ADD-Vantage, and Add-A-Vial products using proper aseptic techniques. Complete required sterile technique training, including calculations testing and media-fill competency assessments. Properly label compounded IV products with required concentrations, beyond-use dates, storage information, and technician identification. Operate and maintain automated medication dispensing systems such as Pyxis 3000 and PARx. Accurately select, scan, refill, and load medications into Pyxis stations. Verify expiration dates and maintain accurate medication labels, patient information, and room assignments. Deliver medications to the appropriate patient bins and locations in a timely manner. Perform assigned monthly nursing station inspections and remove expired medications. Respond promptly to medication stock shortages and replenishment requests. Troubleshoot routine Pyxis issues, including paper replacement, drawer jams, and report retrieval. Process employee prescriptions, complete required documentation, enter prescriptions into the pharmacy system, and coordinate prescription transfers. Maintain accurate transport logs and securely handle prescriptions during transportation and delivery. Access patient profiles and retrieve required admission, discharge, and transfer information. Prepare pharmacy production jobs, including fills, labels, IV/PB/SYR production lists, and medication profiles. Accurately fill medication orders by matching medication labels to physician orders. Prioritize and process STAT medications promptly. Prepare and maintain crash carts, anesthesia trays, and other emergency medication supplies. Follow appropriate procedures for unit-dose preparation of liquid and solid medications. Handle and distribute controlled substances in accordance with hospital policies and applicable New Jersey and federal regulations. Maintain required documentation and immediately report discrepancies or irregularities to a pharmacist. Assist with medication purchasing and inventory management activities. Order medications from approved wholesalers and ensure deliveries are received, checked, stored, and refrigerated appropriately. Follow established procedures for borrowing and lending medications with other healthcare institutions and pharmacies. Monitor medication expiration dates and assist with removing outdated products. Return eligible medications to stock and process patient credits as directed. Maintain accurate medication stock throughout pharmacy and off-site locations. Fill floor-stock requisitions accurately and promptly. Use pharmacy systems such as WORx, HBOC, QS1, and related technology to complete assigned duties. Perform additional pharmacy-related responsibilities as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Certification & Registration Current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification required, or ability to obtain certification within 12 months of employment. Current New Jersey Board of Pharmacy registration required, or ability to obtain registration within 6 months of employment. Knowledge & Skills Basic computer skills and ability to learn pharmacy information systems. Basic mathematical skills and ability to perform pharmaceutical calculations. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to follow pharmacy procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Ability to work effectively in a hospital pharmacy environment. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Physical Requirements: Frequent standing, walking, and fine-motor activities. Occasional sitting, climbing stairs or ladders, carrying, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and crawling. Frequent keyboard use and repetitive wrist and hand movements. Ability to talk and hear continuously while performing job duties. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds from floor to waist. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds at waist level and above. Ability to perform tasks requiring accurate near and far vision and moderate depth perception.
