PerfusionistThe Perfusionist is a uniquely and formally trained allied health professional, educated in the field of extracorporeal science, whose scope of practice expressly includes the utilization of extracorporeal devices. The Perfusionist operates extracorporeal circulation equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support or replace a person's cardiopulmonary, circulatory, or respiratory function. The Perfusionist reports to the Director of CV Perfusion, and is responsible for the selection of appropriate equipment and techniques necessary for support, treatment, measurement, or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and/or circulatory system of a patient, including the safe monitoring, analysis, and treatment of physiologic conditions under an order and supervision of a physician.
