Job Description

Location:  Henry Ford Jackson Hospital

Schedule: 36 hours in a 6-week period; Rotating shifts 

 

 

GENERAL SUMMARY: Provides clinical leadership in coordinating and delivering compassionate, quality patient care in the special care nursery setting. Applies the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—to develop individualized care plans, delegate responsibilities, supervise nursing staff, and document patient outcomes and family education. Communicates pertinent clinical information to the interdisciplinary healthcare team and actively participates in identifying and implementing solutions to optimize patient care goals.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assess patient conditions and family needs using evidence-based clinical judgment to develop comprehensive, individualized nursing care plans
• Implement direct patient care and therapeutic interventions while maintaining compassionate communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members
• Delegate and supervise nursing care activities, ensuring quality standards and compliance with established protocols
• Document patient care, clinical observations, and family education accurately and timely in accordance with regulatory requirements
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to identify variances from patient goals and implement effective solutions
• Evaluate patient responses to interventions and adjust care plans as needed to achieve optimal outcomes
• Demonstrate strong analytical abilities to troubleshoot clinical challenges and enhance nursing care delivery

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with commitment to obtain BSN within 5 years of hire date
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
• Minimum 1 year of direct clinical experience in a special care nursery setting

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

• Strong clinical judgment and analytical abilities to develop and implement effective nursing care plans
• Clear and compassionate communication skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members

 

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

• Current licensure from the Michigan State Board of Nursing
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification or equivalent healthcare provider certification
