Road Construction Superintendent - Road & Civil Work

We are seeking an experienced Road Construction Superintendent to lead the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of road and civil construction projects. This role will oversee site operations from mobilisation through to completion, coordinating field teams, subcontractors, plant, materials and daily activities to ensure work is delivered in accordance with approved designs, project schedules, budgets and relevant standards. The successful candidate will provide visible leadership on site and maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, productivity and environmental compliance.


Key responsibilities will include planning and supervising roadworks, earthworks, drainage, pavements, kerbing, asphalt, concrete and associated civil infrastructure activities. You will interpret drawings, specifications and construction programmes; allocate labour and equipment; monitor progress against milestones; and resolve site issues promptly. The Superintendent will coordinate with project managers, engineers, surveyors, consultants, clients and subcontractors, ensuring clear communication and accurate reporting. Duties will also include conducting pre-starts and toolbox meetings, enforcing safe work practices, inspecting completed works, managing quality documentation, monitoring costs and identifying opportunities to improve construction methods and efficiency.


Applicants should have substantial experience supervising road construction or civil infrastructure projects, with a strong understanding of earthworks, road formation, pavement construction, drainage and relevant construction standards. Experience managing multiple work fronts and leading diverse site crews is essential. You will need the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, programmes and specifications, use construction management systems and maintain accurate records. Strong problem-solving, organisational and communication skills are required, together with a practical, hands-on approach and the confidence to make sound decisions under pressure. Relevant trade, technical or construction qualifications, site safety training and appropriate industry licences will be highly regarded.
