Diesel Truck Shop Mechanic

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Diagnose and repair complex engines, transmissions, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems on diesel trucks with limited supervision. Inspect heavy highway trucks, pinpoint operating deficiencies and excessive machine/component wear. Use hand tools (wrenches, hammers, impact tools, torque wrenches, grinders, screw drivers, measuring devices, overhead hoists, cranes, slings, chains, electrical testing tools, hydraulic testing tools, micrometers, gauges) to routinely dismantle, rebuild, adjust and repair primary systems including drive trains, engines, transmissions, hydraulics, fuel, air, brake, pneumatic, electrical, steering, suspension, exhaust on highway‑legal trucks and trailers. Provide shop foreman time estimates and inventory of required parts or special tools for each project. Use an established checklist to certify that all repairs and workmanship were properly completed, and the item is fully operational and ready for mobilization. Submit accurate work orders. Perform minor fabrication, alterations and repairs to equipment using MIG, TIG and oxygen/acetylene welding and cutting equipment. Operate forklifts, trucks and heavy equipment as needed. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum three years verifiable experience and/or schooling diagnosing and repairing heavy highway trucks and trailers in shop or field settings. Relevant manufacturer and/or industry association certifications and/or degree from an accredited trade school, college or university. Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals, drawings, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and repair manuals. Proficient computer skills to run diagnostic tests on truck engines and components. Knowledge of diagnostic test equipment used to repair equipment and electronic components. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, work cooperatively with others and keep accurate records. Furnish own tools. Class B CDL with tanker and hazmat endorsement is preferred but not required. Must pass pre‑employment drug test and fitness test prior to working. #J-18808-Ljbffr Oftedal Construction, Inc.
