Supervisor Assembly Operations Location: Lynchburg, VA, US Work Arrangement: Onsite Belvac’s proven technology is utilized worldwide in the 2 piece aluminum beverage can industry. Manufacturing and inspection technology is used in the beverage, food, beauty, and aerosol industries worldwide. Belvac is dedicated to delivering high‑performance machinery at the lowest cost of operation and offers real‑time support in more than 150 countries. General Function Supervisor daily activities associated with assembly and paint departments. Provide leadership, training and motivation for employees who build mechanical & electrical sub‑assemblies and paint services integrated into OEM machinery. Create a self‑motivated workforce with a common goal to meet on‑time delivery while assuring quality standards are maintained for machinery and spare part assemblies. Primary Responsibilities Implement and maintain the Belvac Quality Management System, including documentation, records, and adherence to procedures for all employees within the supervisor’s area. Provide leadership in adhering to Belvac’s Basic Beliefs and Vision Statement to build a highly motivated, well trained, and self‑managed workforce. Develop and implement assembly processes and procedures that support the Q.M.S. and business objectives. Conduct annual performance appraisals for team members. Demonstrate a record of implementing change or acting as a change agent in a dynamic environment. Apply strong project‑management skills to manage concurrent assembly schedules for large OEM machinery. Show significant experience in Toyota Production Systems, Lean initiatives, 5S/6S, JIT inventory management, visual factory concepts, demand‑flow technology, Kaizen events, and process improvement teams. Provide design‑engineering input to assist in configuration of BOMs that promote efficiency gains and lead‑time reduction. Maximize technology and operating strategies on manufacturing equipment such as lasers to realize throughput and efficiency gains. Develop employee redundancy in all areas and functions managed. Ensure machinery readiness for internal buy‑off. Recognize labor shortfalls before they become critical to on‑time delivery and implement temporary or reallocated labor. Develop internal programs to train new employees, reallocated staff, and/or contract labor. Lead employees to understand their role in customer satisfaction. Motivate and develop departmental personnel to optimize performance and professional growth, fostering a self‑managed workforce. Maintain full budgetary responsibility for areas managed. Compile and evaluate data to measure performance against objectives. Implement corrective actions when performance measurements are unmet or at risk. Work with other operations supervisors to maximize consignment inventory. Complete tasks, projects, or objectives assigned by management. Use inventory, manufacturing, engineering, and financial systems currently employed by Belvac. Other job duties as assigned. Experience Working knowledge of PC‑based software such as Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and company‑wide MRP software. Experience in manpower supervision, budgeting, scheduling, and project management. Ability to withstand and diffuse stress in a dynamic business environment. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to speak effectively before employee groups. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in machine maintenance, hands‑on production or assembly, construction, or design. Education High School diploma or GED. Preferred Formal Education Associate Degree or technical certificates in production processing, manufacturing technology, or business management. Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical or industrial engineering, operations management, or business administration is highly valued. Recommended Certifications & Skills Lean/Six Sigma certification demonstrates ability to reduce waste and improve line efficiency. OSHA certification ensures a strong foundation in workplace health and safety regulations. Supply‑chain credentials such as APICS CPIM demonstrate expertise in inventory and production management.
