SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

Position: Special Education Teacher Reports To: Building Principal, PPS Director Work Year Days: 185 Terms of Employment: Per contract Salary: $58,918-99,223 Educational/Training/Experience/License Required:
- DESE Certification as Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities 5-12
- Training and experience with students with disabilities, Diagnostic Testing, and behavior modification preferred
- Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
- Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student's IEP. Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
- Coordinates the timely delivery of special education services in each student's IEP. Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis on individualized instruction using appropriate resources.
- Establishes and maintains student control and discipline in the classroom, school premises or during school activities. Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures.
- Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
- Actively participates in meetings and serves as liaison to the parent, general education teachers, and other service providers, including community service providers (i.e., social services, public health, counselors, etc.).
- Conducts special education evaluations and reevaluations, including scoring and providing a written evaluation report.
- Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans in collaboration with parents and other staff.
- Provides direction, supervision and evaluation of paraprofessionals as needed.
- Complies with District policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.
- Completes all district and state reporting requirements. Maintains scholastic, attendance, and other required records.
- Continues individual professional growth.
- Perform other school related duties as directed by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services and the Building Principal.
- DESE Certification as Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities 5-12
- Experience providing inclusion and small group services
