Registered Nurse - Gastroenterology

Registered Nurse (RN)The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process to provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care while maintaining professional accountability for assigned patients. The RN evaluates the effectiveness of care provided by other direct caregivers and coordinates patient care collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams. This position upholds patient rights, maintains confidentiality, and performs all duties in alignment with Mercy's mission, values, and Service Standards.We are a specialty procedural area for GI and Pulmonology procedures. We have 5 gastroenterologists and 4 pulmonologists. Our staff covers 2 procedural areas: the outpatient only- area in our physician's plaza building and the hospital procedural area in the main hospital. Both locations have a pre/post unit. The hospital area serves high-risk outpatients, inpatient, and ED patients. Every nurse here trains and works in the 3 nursing roles: admitting nurse, circulating nurse (in the procedure room) and recovery/discharge nurse. We perform 50-60 procedures a day. Our shifts are 8 hours during the weekdays. Full time and Part time nurses also take some afterhours call usually consisting of 4 weeknights and one weekend in a 10-week period.Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Knowledge of the principles and skills needed for nursing, care, examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures. Knowledge of medications and their effects, patient education, principles to develop a self-care program, instruments and common safety practices.Licensure: Current valid state license.Certifications: CPR certification or obtain within 90 days of employment.Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Skill in assisting and performing a variety of medical treatments and procedures. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Must be able to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and policies. Must be able to communicate clearly and establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public.
