Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – General Surgery / Medical-Surgical

Location: Mission Hospital – Asheville, NC
Unit: 8K General Surgery (44-Bed Unit)
Contract: 13 Weeks | Travel Assignment

Job Overview

Mission Hospital is seeking an experienced Travel Registered Nurse (RN) to join its fast-paced 8K General Surgery Unit . This 44-bed medical-surgical unit cares for a diverse surgical patient population, including urology, bowel, plastics, ENT, and general surgery cases. The ideal candidate is a strong team player with excellent communication skills, solid telemetry experience, and the ability to manage a high-acuity patient assignment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult medical-surgical and post-operative patients.
• Perform thorough patient assessments, develop care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes.
• Monitor telemetry patients and recognize changes in clinical condition.
• Manage patient assignments of 6–7 patients per shift.
• Administer medications, IV antibiotics, heparin drips, TPN, PCA therapy, and tube feedings.
• Care for patients with wound vacs, PEG tubes, NG tubes, urinary catheters, colostomies, urostomies, and multiple surgical drains.
• Collaborate with physicians, charge nurses, CNAs, and the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
• Accurately document patient care using Cerner EMR .
• Float to other Medical-Surgical units as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Active RN License
• Minimum recent Medical-Surgical experience
• Strong Telemetry competency
• Experience managing 6–7 patients in an acute care setting
• Experience caring for urology and bowel surgery patients
• BLS Certification

Preferred Experience

• Post-operative General Surgery nursing
• Wound Vac management
• TPN and PCA administration
• Tube feedings (PEG/Dobhoff)
• Heparin drips
• Surgical drain management

Schedule Requirements

• Weekend Rotation: 6 weekend shifts every 6 weeks
• Floating: Other Medical-Surgical units as needed
