Distribution Interconnections Planning Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:The number of Distributed Generation (DG) sites is increasing throughout Georgia, as solar, battery storage, and biomass technology is implemented to facilitate renewable energy. This Interconnections Planning Distribution Engineer position has opportunities to gain experience with Distributed Energy Resource modeling, area contingency studies, and real-world applications. The successful candidate will provide technical review and support towards DG projects, as well as learn about energy procurement programs. The successful candidate will also work closely with SCS and GPC workgroups (such as Customer Programs, Renewable Development, Distribution Reliability, Area Planning, Transmission Interconnections, and area Power Delivery teams) to ensure that new interconnections safely meet the needs of GPC, its customers, and communities. Engineering Degree or Engineering Technology Degree highly preferred - Electrical discipline preferred.Advanced certifications preferred (e.g. Professional Engineer license)Technical Experience Requirements:Demonstrated experience with processes related to planning, design, operation, and/or maintenance of Transmission, Distribution, or Generation assets.Specific experience related to generator interconnection processes and implementation is preferred.Experience with distribution system planning and modeling software is preferred.Ability to demonstrate knowledge of electric utility operating and construction practices, land requirements and regulations, budgeting, scheduling, and general business practices is preferred.Analytical skills to evaluate progress, identify problem areas, evaluate alternatives, financial impacts and determine viable solutions to meet Customer and Company needs.Behavioral Attributes: Demonstrate behaviors consistent with Our Values: Safety First, Intentional Inclusion, Act with Integrity, Superior Performance. Ability to prioritize work effectively, exercise sound judgment, and accurately complete tasksEffective written and verbal communication skillsJob Duties and Responsibilities:Review of Distribution Generation (DG) Interconnections Agreements for projects approved by the GA Public Service Commission (PSC).Technical Support of Project Studies:Perform and coordinate Transmission and Distribution system studies (including Load-Rejection Transient Overvoltage (TOV) Analysis, Stiffness Analysis, Integrated Transmission System (ITS) Assessment, and Detailed Load Flow Studies). Provide quality review of interconnection facilities design and need for company upgrades for various programs.Technical review of contracts prior to execution (Interconnection Agreements and amendments, if needed).Provide technical support and insight to other GPC workgroups about various aspects of generator interconnections and system impactsFull timePosting Date: 2026-08-12
