Assistant Director, Diversity & Inclusion Associate, Provost for Community & Inclusion

Boston University Diversity & Inclusion (BU D&I) is seeking an Assistant Director to support the BU D&I team in two critical functional areas: programming and communications. BU D&I supports BU's 17 schools and colleges as well as administrative units to create and sustain an inclusive campus environment and support a strong sense of belonging for all faculty, staff, and students. The Assistant Director will serve as an institution-wide resource and expert on diversity and inclusion in higher education, design and implement diversity-, equity-, and inclusion-related educational opportunities for the entire BU community of faculty, students, and staff, and serve as a communications liaison, advising the unit on strategic communications and resource development. Previous professional experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion work through an intersectional lens is essential for this role. The Assistant Director will contribute to the team's development of a programming strategy to enhance campus climate and sense of belonging for all BU community members, oversee and advise six faculty-staff community networks, and collaborate with other campus units to support programming efforts. With regard to marketing and communications, the Assistant Director will liaise with communications partners to oversee the unit's communications strategy, including creating and sending a monthly newsletter, maintaining social media presence, website management and maintenance, and working closely with a communications graduate assistant. BU D&I is organizationally housed under the Senior Vice President of People, Belonging, & Culture; the Assistant Director reports to the Director of BU D&I. BU D&I is a highly collaborative team that depends on strong and open communication from all team members.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of professional experience in higher education or a related field; master's degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field preferred.
• Extensive knowledge about diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and intersectionality.
• Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a workplace with colleagues and students from a wide array of backgrounds, identities, life experiences, and communication styles.
• Excellent communication skills to express ideas clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to take initiative, problem solve, and work independently and transparently with good judgment about when to seek direction.
• Experience planning, implementing, and assessing[EA1.1] programs and events, including online, hybrid, and in-person programs, ranging from small to large scale in scope and size.
• Ability to foster inclusion and respect for a plurality of ideological and political perspectives.
• Ability to juggle many different projects simultaneously with consistent accuracy, follow-through, and timely completion of projects.
• Collaborative workstyle and demonstrated experience working as part of a team to achieve broader goals.
• Ability to tactfully and thoughtfully navigate large and complex organizational environments. 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Canva, WordPress, and MailChimp preferred.
• Experience with social media and marketing (e.g., graphic design, branding, content creation, and marketing campaigns) preferred; openness to adopting new technologies.
• This position is in-person in Boston, MA, with the potential to work remotely two days/week at supervisor's discretion.
