About the Role The Designer / Sr. Designer, Home Textiles is a hands-on maker role for an experienced designer with at least 6 years of design experience. You will design product personally from concept through approved sample, working under the creative direction of the Design Director. You will translate Coyuchi's design DNA into beautiful, considered product across Bedding, Bath, Décor, Dining and Apparel. We're looking for a designer with a deep feel for woven and knitted textiles, a refined eye, a genuine love of home and craft, and a real commitment to sustainable design — someone who believes luxury lives in the hand, the fiber and the finish rather than in the logo. Design product from first sketch to approved sample — this is a making role, not a coordinating one Build seasonal inspiration and mood boards, color palettes, and material stories in line with the seasonal brief and the brand ethos Develop original pattern, print, jacquard, dobby, stripe and texture artwork in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, in both print and digital form for line reviews and vendor development Create and maintain specs, tech packs and corresponding artwork through to hand-off to Product Development Review development samples, protos, swatches, hand-looms, knit-downs, strike-offs and lab dips; give clear, actionable comments on color, hand, drape, weight and construction Manage color approvals so color reads true to the season's story and coordinates across the line and across substrates Partner daily with Product Development and vendors/agents to track development samples and resolve issues on fabrics, trims, color and specs, including vendor meetings; travel to trade shows and vendor partners for inspiration, reviews and development Create and maintain seasonal Visual Line sheets and Product Dossier Complete all activities on time against the Design and Development calendar and to Coyuchi's sustainability and quality standards; flag risks early, with options and the impact on production Materiality, Weaving & Knitting Design with a working command of woven constructions (percale, sateen, twill, dobby, jacquard, gauze, waffle, matelassé) and knit constructions (jersey, rib, interlock, terry and loop-pile) Understand how fiber, yarn count, twist, density, GSM and finishing (washing, brushing, garment-dye, enzyme, piece-dye vs. yarn-dye) shape hand, performance, durability and cost Work with natural and certified organic fibers — cotton, linen, wool, hemp — and understand their behavior in dyeing, shrinkage, hand-feel and care Partner with Sourcing, mills and factories on R&D: new substrates, finishes, treatments and weaving/knitting techniques that meet Coyuchi's standards (GOTS / GOLS / Fair Trade), quality and commercial goals and advance Coyuchi’s leadership and authority in organic & sustainability standards Balance aesthetic intent and innovation, with costing and commercial potential, proposing construction alternatives when targets are at risk Brand DNA, Aesthetic & Innovation Make Coyuchi's design DNA recognizable, cohesive and differentiated in every product Apply a subtle-luxury lens — restraint, tactility, tonal color, beautiful detail and finish — over trend-driven or overtly decorative design Research seasonal, competitor and adjacent-category trends (home, apparel, interiors, worldwide craft, heritage textiles techniques) and translate them into Coyuchi's point of view Align creative output to the product brief and strategic roadmap; support growth of core programs and development into new categories per the Company growth plan Help maintain the Product Dossier and Design DNA guidelines Cross-Functional Partnership Collaborate with Marketing and Creative on Inspiration and Concept to reflect Product & Brand story telling Present progress at seasonal milestones (Kick-Off, Mid-Line, Final Line Review), present the line to the company at each season's launch, and incorporate feedback quickly Partner with Merchandising, Product Development, Sourcing and Production on briefs, hand-offs and pre-production readiness Give Marketing the design story behind each product/collection — materials, techniques, inspiration — to inform copy, photography and storytelling Document the design process, seasonal themes and product qualities, and educate the wider company on current and upcoming product; Leverage hindsight results and Consumer insights to inform your design direction What We're Looking For 6+ years of hands-on design experience in home textiles; Sr. Designer level for candidates who have owned a product category end to end. Home textiles a must have, Fashion experience a nice to have A portfolio from premium or luxury brands with a refined, understated yet recognizable aesthetic In-depth knowledge of woven and knitted constructions, yarns, dyeing and finishing, and their impact on quality and cost Organized, timely, able to work on calendar and through peak period efficiently A passion for sustainable design — natural and organic fibers, responsible processes, circularity — with working knowledge of GOTS / GOLS / Fair Trade A curated eye for color, texture and proportion, and a genuine love of home and craft Expert in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; Excel, Google Workspace and Asana; weave/knit CAD a plus; fitting experience a plus Clear presenter and communicator; supportive team member; organized against a calendar Bachelor's degree in Textile, Fashion or Surface Design, or a related field such as Interior or Industrial Design, or equivalent experience Travel required: domestic and international trade shows and vendor/mill visits Please note, this job requires you to work in the San Francisco office 3-4 days/week #J-18808-Ljbffr
