II. SUMMARY OF POSITION'S PURPOSE

Providing educationally relevant Physical therapy services to special education students with developmental and/or physical motor impairments to maximize independence and allow optimal participation in all functional educational activities in accordance to the students' IEP.

III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION - Verification of valid Physical Therapist licensure by the Louisiana Physical Therapy Board. Additional criteria as established by the School Board.

IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Screens and evaluates students for physical therapy (PT) eligibility in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the state department of education.
2. Completes all reports and paperwork accurately and within timelines and maintains records as required by local, state, and federal policies and procedures.
3. Collaborates with teachers to develop IEPs and participate in IEP conferences.
4. Provides therapeutic intervention to the student and provides consultation and supervision for educational personnel implementing these interventions according to the student's educational plan.
5. Monitors student's progress on a regular basis and provides input on integrated goals on the progress reports.
6. Documents PT services to ensure accountability of service provision and to meet standards for reimbursement of services as appropriate.
7. Provides individualized assistance and/or in-service training to educational personnel and/or the student's caregivers.
8. Selects, maintains, and fabricates necessary adaptive equipment to meet the student's educational needs.
9. Participates in professional growth and development activities relevant to PT in the school system.
10. Maintains communication with appropriate medical personnel.
11. Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and school board policies.
12. Provides professional, courteous, and prompt service to all internal and external persons including students, parents, co-workers, etc.
13. Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships.
14. Maintains student and employee confidentiality.
15. Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work process and financial performance. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
16. Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system.
17. Performs other duties as required.

Teachers shall be expected to perform the following duties, along with the completion of corresponding documents, forms, and reports:

   • Take and record attendance
   • Enter/Average grades
   • Maintain positive and timely interaction with parents relative to the performance or conduct of students assigned to the teacher
2. Supervision
   • Supervision of students when students are on or off campus at a school related/sponsored event
   • Supervision of students prior to school and/or drop-off, when assigned
   • Supervision of students in the classroom
   • Supervision of students between classes, during recess/intermission, during lunch, assemblies
   • Supervision of students after school and/or pick-up, when assigned
3. Non-instructional Components
   • Attend meetings generally associated with the instructions of students
   • Attend faculty, staff, and department meetings
   • Attend training sessions
   • Attend IEP meetings
   • Attend parent-teacher conferences
   • Attend back-to-school and open-house events
   • Attend graduation
   • Attend PGP, PIP, Evaluation, Observation, IAP, and student discipline meetings/hearings
   • Attend school board/committee meetings, upon request
4. Extracurricular Activities
   • Attend/work concessions/gates of no more than 15 athletic events per school year as requested by the principal or designee
   • Attend all meetings and functions of those activities, clubs, or groups of which the employee is a sponsor
