Job Description:


- Shift: 19:00-07:00
- Location: Summit Medical Center
- Unit Name: PCU
- Address: 5655 Frist Boulevard

Unit Specifics:
- Number of Beds:
- 630: 34 beds
- 633: 25 beds
- Patient Ratios:
- Days: 1:4 to 1:5
- Nights: 1:5 to 1:6
- Staffing Description:
- 3 techs when full on 630
- 2 techs when full on 633
- Type of Equipment:
- Bipaps
- High flow O2
- Vapotherm
- Alaris pumps
- Cardiac drips
- Heparin drips
- Insulin drips
- Peritoneal dialysis
- Wound vacs in conjunction with wound care
- Documentation System: Meditech

Scheduling Requirements:
- Every other weekend requirement for contract
- 3 twelve-hour shifts a week

Floating Policy:
- May need to float between PCU units or to med-surg floors.

Patient Experience Requirements:
- Hourly rounding on days
- Every 2-hour rounding on nights
- AIDET and keeping up with communication boards on the 7th floor
- Dept 633 has TV communication boards.

Certifications Needed:
- BLS
- ACLS

Key Skills Required:
- Critical thinking skills
- EKG rhythm interpretation
- Cardiac drip, insulin drip, and heparin drip experience
- Peritoneal dialysis experience preferred
- Peripheral IV skills
- Advanced skills: ACLS
- Experience with bipaps, high flow O2, and oxygen delivery systems
- Experience with stroke and post-cardiac cath care
- Experience with tube feedings and NG/dobhoff tubes.

Procedures Performed on Unit:
- Peritoneal dialysis
- Thoracentesis
- Paracentesis
- Chest tube insertions
- Dobhoff/NG tube insertions
- Central line dressing changes
- Troubleshooting wound vacs.

Dress Code:
- Required uniform: Black Scrubs

Unit Guidelines/Policies:
- Please attach unit-specific policies and guidelines.

Awards/Recognition:
- Outstanding department/team awards and videos that feature the department.

Additional Information:
- Enjoy self-scheduling with 4-week schedules
- Contracts required to work every other weekend
- Utilize techs for patient care assistance
- Most travelers extend after their first time on PCU
