About the Role
As a Founding Engineer at limetax, you'll design, build, and operate AI systems that meaningfully reduce manual work in accounting and tax advisory. You'll work directly with real tax firms, accessing complex production workflows and data to build AI solutions that solve genuine operational problems—not isolated demos. Your focus will be on taking AI from prototype to reliable production systems, including the evaluation, monitoring, and continuous improvement required to operate AI safely in high-stakes workflows.
What You'll Do
- Build and operate systems that extract, understand, classify, and process real accounting and tax documents.
- Design and implement retrieval and knowledge systems across tax law, internal knowledge bases, client histories, and firm-specific data.
- Build agentic workflows and AI-driven systems that automate complex, multi-step accounting and tax processes.
- Develop systems for use cases such as booking proposals, anomaly detection, classification, and intelligent recommendations.
- Build and maintain the data pipelines and infrastructure required to power reliable AI and ML workflows.
- Design evaluations, monitoring, observability, and feedback loops to understand system performance and failure modes in production.
- Take AI capabilities from experimentation through deployment and continuously improve them based on real-world performance.
- Work closely with engineers, operators, and tax professionals to translate complex workflows and domain knowledge into AI-driven solutions.
What We're Looking For
- Hands-on experience shipping ML, LLM, or AI-based systems into real production environments.
- Exposure to AI in high-stakes domains where reliability and auditability matter.
- Experience collaborating with domain experts to translate complex workflows into AI solutions.
- Strong software engineering discipline with a focus on reliability, testing, observability, and maintainable systems.
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, retrieval systems, AI agents, or related technologies.
- Experience building end-to-end AI-powered workflows in production environments.
- Experience taking AI capabilities from prototype to production, including evaluation, monitoring, and iteration.
- Strong product intuition and ability to turn vague problems into pragmatic technical solutions.
- Experience with data pipelines and ML workflows.
