SECURITY OFFICER

Security Officer

The Security Officer is responsible for providing a secure and safe building for peers, staff, patients, and providers. Position requirements/qualifications include a minimum of a high school diploma or GED with one-year experience working as a security officer. General knowledge of security duties is required. Educational courses in law enforcement are desired. Florida state unarmed guard license is desired. Maintain current CPR certification from the American Heart Association. Must have an active Florida driver's license. Ability to use good judgment and tact in working with persons of various ethnic backgrounds. Good physical condition to run and restrain patients. Forty hours per week, five days per week, and nights as scheduled.

Position responsibilities include maintaining crowd control for all CHI patient care and mall areas. Providing immediate response to pages and radio calls. Ensuring lights are turned on or off as required. Patrolling staff and patient/visitor parking lots, directing traffic when required, issuing traffic notices to parking violators as required. Completing irregularity reports on all irregularities: thefts, fires, and on any misconduct by staff, patients or visitors who break CHI rules and regulations. Notifying metro police of all break-ins; car thefts, hubcaps, batteries, acts of vandalism and disturbances. Maintaining key control of building at all times. Locking and/or unlocking center exit doors, department doors, lock, and unlock outside gates as required. Assisting staff and patients/visitors whenever needed or called upon. Contacting designated administrative staff person as soon as an unusual incident or situation is known. Receiving and investigating reports of problems to determine appropriate response. Raising or lowering the US flag by 8:00 AM (mornings) or 6:00 PM (evenings) on normal CHI workdays. Maintaining and completing all required entries in security logbook. Processing in/out new or terminated CHI employees. Activating and deactivating alarm system at CHI facilities as required. Reporting all safety hazardous conditions observed to the Safety Officer. Ensuring that all doors and gates are properly locked as required. Issuing identification badges and vehicle decals to all new CHI employees. Reporting to work on time and ready to work with minimal absenteeism. Demonstrating the ability to communicate the company's mission, vision, and values, as well as departmental goals, to all staff. Providing leadership and guidance to other staff in goal setting, problem solving, resource management, and outcome achievement. Defining performance objectives and metrics for the department and assessing the level of competence of staff in a timely manner. Demonstrating a commitment to a healthy work environment by modeling the desired behaviors and encouraging those in others. Demonstrating the ability to cope with and manage change, as well as help others do the same. Collaborating with other departments to create systems and problem solve ongoing issues that impact departmental/organizational goals and/or patient care delivery. Demonstrating fiscal accountability for departmental resources and the ability to achieve outcomes within allocated resources. Demonstrating a clear understanding of regulations applicable to patient care and/or other department functions. Written safety management plan is reviewed annually. Attending meetings as required such as in-service meetings, department head meetings, staff meetings, and committee meetings. Keeping up to date in the field of safety through current literature. Promoting positive employee relations. Attending all required safety training programs and describing responsibilities related to general safety, departmental/service safety, and specific job-related hazards. Responsibly following the company's exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens. Demonstrating knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment. Ensuring a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures. Promoting effective working relations and working effectively as part of department/unit team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Demonstrating respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Maintaining a professional composure and confidence during stressful situations. Conducting all work activities with respect, rights, and wishes of patients, visitors, families, and fellow employees. Maintaining confidentiality of all company and patient information at all times. Providing managers/staff with guidance and resources to identify/control areas for safety risk. Coordinating regular hazard surveillance tours of the facility including departmental follow-up of recommendations. Reporting on findings, and actions taken and results of measurement. Directing the development of company-wide and departmental safety policies and procedures. Participating in the education and training program to meet the identified need of the center and/or employee. Taking timely action to intervene in situations or conditions that pose an immediate threat to life, health, or property. Reporting findings of hazardous conditions and unsafe practices to the Safety Committee. Maintaining knowledge of centers construction standards, methods, practices, techniques, materials, equipment, and utility system sufficient to determine compliance with safety standards and requirements and devise correction/improvements where applicable. May act as a mental health technician in extreme cases or when needed in the Crisis Stabilization Unit. Keeping current as to techniques and processes utilized in risk assessment, incident investigation, hazard analysis, program evaluation, and documentation. Adhering to confidentiality policies and procedures/HIPAA regulations. Performing other duties as assigned.
