Job Description Job Title: Physical Therapist Location: District Effective Date: 06/09/2026 Union: Non-Union Pay Range: $55,000 - $95,000 Class Title: FTE: 0.8 Supervision Received: Director of Pupil Personnel Supervision Exercised: None Job Summary: The Physical Therapist (PT) evaluates students, delivers direct services according to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 plans, and consults with educational teams. The school‑based PT helps eligible students with disabilities maximize their functional mobility, strength, and endurance to fully participate in the academic and general education environment. Responsibilities Evaluations & Planning: Conduct comprehensive physical therapy evaluations and develop individualized treatment plans (IEPs) targeted at school‑based motor goals and participation around the school environment. IEP Management: Develop educationally relevant goals, write comprehensive reports, and participate in evaluation, IEP and Section 504 meetings to establish goals, supplemental services and care plans. Frequently monitor student progress using evidence‑based data collection tools and observation. Direct & Indirect Therapeutic Intervention: Provide hands‑on or consultative PT services across early childhood, elementary, and secondary levels. Provide targeted one‑on‑one or small‑group specialized instruction and therapy sessions, as well as indirect support such as environmental adaptations and maintaining materials and equipment. Collaboration & Consultation: Work closely with teachers, special education staff, speech‑language pathologists, occupational therapists and parents to ensure positioning, safe campus mobility, and carry‑over activities for the home and classroom. Documentation & Compliance: Keep accurate records of attendance, therapy data and progress reports in accordance with state and federal special education laws. Professional Growth: Commit to professional development events and self‑generated activities that meet district expectations and re‑certification requirements. Team Responsibilities: Share responsibility for meeting the goals of the grade, team, department and district by attending required faculty meetings and participating in district‑wide committees. Extended School Year Services: Provide direct services during ESY sessions as determined by individual student needs in accordance with IEPs. Additional Duties: Execute additional duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services; maintain strict confidentiality regarding all student, family and staff records in accordance with FERPA regulations and district policies. Other duties: Perform any related duties as assigned. Qualifications Experience: Pediatric or school‑based experience highly preferred. Dedicated commitment to maintaining current knowledge in physical therapy content and strategies. Demonstrated experience working with students within a diverse environment. Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an accredited institution. Certification: Active, valid Physical Therapy license issued by the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH). Job Requirements Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
