Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Externship Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides veterinary students with hands-on clinical experience and a deep understanding of practice operations. All NVA hospitals share a supportive environment, commitment to excellent medicine, and exceptional service to animals and their owners. Responsibilities Gather patient histories Perform physical examinations Create and implement treatment plans Conduct diagnostic tests Provide dental services Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures Manage medical care of patients Practice communication with the medical team, support staff, and clients Duration Externship lengths range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. Stipend Students in the clinical portion of their education qualify for a travel/living expense stipend. An additional $500 travel stipend is offerd on top of the standard amount for externships at this hospital. Stipend amounts and program details are available at the NVA careers site.
