Job Description

Join a busy fabrication shop as a Production Laborer focused on deburring and finishing metal parts. You will support the production process by preparing parts for painting and powder coating, operating hand and power tools, and performing a wide range of manual labor tasks to ensure high-quality finished products.

Responsibilities

• Debur metal parts to remove sharp edges, burrs, and imperfections using hand and power tools.
• Prepare parts for painting by performing thorough paint prep, including cleaning, sanding, and surface conditioning.
• Assist with powder coating operations by handling parts, supporting coating processes, and ensuring proper coverage and finish.
• Grind metal components to achieve smooth surfaces and precise finishes according to specifications.
• Sand metal surfaces using appropriate tools and techniques to create clean, uniform finishes.
• Polish metal parts to achieve the required appearance and quality standards.
• Perform general labor tasks in a manufacturing environment, including lifting, moving, and staging materials.
• Handle materials safely and efficiently, supporting machine operators and production teams as a machine helper when needed.
• Use hand tools and power tools such as grinders, sanders, and buffers in a safe and controlled manner.
• Support industrial fabrication activities, including work on metal and concrete-related tasks as assigned.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area in the fabrication shop.
• Collaborate with team members and respond to direction to meet production schedules and quality requirements.

Essential Skills

• Experience performing deburring of metal parts in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
• Hands-on experience with paint preparation, including cleaning, sanding, and surface prep for coatings.
• Practical experience with powder coating processes or assisting in a powder coat operation.
• Ability to grind, sand, and polish metal using hand tools and power tools.
• Comfort with general labor and manufacturing tasks, including heavy lifting and repetitive manual work.
• Material handling experience in an industrial or fabrication setting.
• Ability to work safely with hand tools, power tools, and industrial equipment.
• Willingness and physical ability to perform a high volume of manual labor tasks throughout the shift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• laborer or machine helper in a fabrication, industrial, or carpentry environment.
• Experience with buffing, grinding, and sanding metal or similar materials.
• Exposure to concrete or other industrial construction materials is a plus.
• Ability to adapt to different tasks across deburring, painting, grinding, and general shop support.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn new fabrication and finishing skills.

Work Environment

This role is based in a fabrication shop environment that is nonclimate controlled, so temperatures will vary with the seasons. You will work around industrial equipment, metal fabrication processes, and finishing operations such as grinding, sanding, painting, and powder coating. The position involves frequent heavy lifting, standing for extended periods, and performing physically demanding tasks throughout the shift. Appropriate work attire suitable for an industrial shop, including protective gear as required, will be necessary to work safely and comfortably in this environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Charleston, SC.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
