Job Title: School Nurse (1 Student - Full School Year) (RN or LPN), "PDN"

Location: Frederick County, MD

Setting: School

Hours (School Year): Day Shift, 5x8, M-F

Pay: $41/hour

Pay: $60/hour

Start Date: 8/19/2026 (full school year need with potential summer hours)

 

Summary of Position:

 

NOTE: YOU WILL BE ASSIGNED TO ONE STUDENT (FULL SCHOOL YEAR) FOR THIS ROLE.

The PDN provides all the primary care of the student from when the student boards the school bus to when the student arrives at home. The PDN will meet student at residence and accompany student to and from school on the school bus. (Please note that the PDN is not permitted to enter the residence). The PDN may accompany the student to enable them to attend school-sponsored and/or school-funded programs outside of school and/or outside of the school day.

 

Requirements:

 

• Current LPN or RN licensure in the state of Maryland
• Covid vaccination, or weekly testing if not vaccinated
• 2 years of pediatric nursing experience

 

Essential Functions:

Essential functions may vary based on the assigned patient

 

• Assess temperature, pulse, respirations, pulse oximeter, and pain status
• Administer medications as directed
• Ensure wheelchair safety
• Assess neurological mental status, ton, patient baseline eye contact, sound response, facial expressions, and speech changes
• Document all interventions performed and response to interventions
• Monitor for seizure activity
• Clean and place hearing aides as directed
• Assess atypical heart rhythm and sounds, capillary refill, edema, and skin color
• Patient will have an AMBU bag with a mask/CPR mask available and with an emergency travel bag at all times
• Assess for signs of feeding intolerance
• Elevate JOB up to 30 degrees as tolerated
• Gtube functions and care
• Secure Mickey extension during feeding and remove when complete
• Ostomy care
• Gastrostomy and Ileostomy care
• Other treatments ordered by the physician, physician’s assistant (PA), or nurse practitioner and outlined in Plan of Care
• Collaboration with the student’s primary physician regarding all medical/mental health related medically necessary
