Public Health Clinic Nurse Supervisor

This advanced professional classification supervises clinical and/or non‑clinical staff under the general direction of a Clinic Coordinator or Program Manager. Responsibilities include supervising, training, and developing diverse teams of staff; coordinating work assignments; conducting performance evaluations; and handling disciplinary issues. Career Path Options Program Manager I Program Manager II Assistant Division Director Essential Functions Provide supervision and technical expertise to ensure high‑quality disease prevention, investigation, and management services. Coordinate and communicate with healthcare facilities, schools, businesses, and other partners to provide services, complete investigations, and offer technical assistance. Work with Program Manager and Division Director to develop team strategy, manage program contracts, and meet funding deliverables. Examples of Key Duties Supervise and coordinate the work of nurses, clinical staff, professionals, and administrative employees. Direct staff work to achieve program, project, and department goals. Provide regular performance feedback, conduct performance reviews, and perform employee check‑ins. Manage staff with varied needs and personalities effectively. Handle interpersonal issues discretely and timely, fostering a cohesive work team. Partner with HR on investigation and resolution of disciplinary matters; issue discipline as needed. Ensure compliance with Department policies, including hours worked, ethics, time off, and harassment policies. Audit and approve employee timecards and time‑off requests. Mentor and coach direct reports; develop training plans for onboarding and continuous development. Allocate program resources such as vehicles, training funds, and purchasing dollars among staff. Review and evaluate processes; apply quality tools and techniques for continuous improvement; create process workflows and documentation. Forecast staffing needs and present them to the Clinic Coordinator or Program Manager. Provide backup support to nursing staff as needed. Collaborate with clinical team on complex cases. Conduct health assessments and provide guidance, education, and treatment to patients per medical orders. Provide backup coverage for program management. Ensure completion of employee safety trainings and requirements. Participate in Title XIX Medicaid Claiming Program as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in public health, nursing, healthcare administration, or related field (BSN required for some programs). At least four years of nursing experience in a healthcare or public health setting. Experience in public health preferred. Two years of experience in a clinical supervisory or lead role. Professional Certifications, Licensure, and Other Requirements Valid State of Washington Registered Nurse License or multi‑state license endorsement. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driver’s abstract (required for some programs). Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers and AED certifications required within 90 days of hire. Immunizations and screening required at hire and annually as per program area. Work Environment Trauma‑informed, patient‑centered environment in office, clinical, or community settings. Exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and biohazardous materials. Potential for dealing with dissatisfied or angry customers – requires conflict resolution skills. Direct interaction with patients, community members, staff, and partners. Up to 100% in‑person work; may require travel to client residences or community centers. Physical and Cognitive Demands Regular sitting/standing; reading documents; fine motor skills for paper and computer use.
