Social Services Unit Intern (College Internship)

The Roseville Police Department is seeking motivated college students to join the Social Services Unit as Interns. This position offers hands-on experience in community outreach, case management, and crisis support. Interns will assist individuals experiencing quality-of-life challenges, homelessness, and mental health needs while gaining direct exposure to law enforcement and social work integration.

This position is limited to no more than 40 hours per week and no more than 1000 hours per fiscal year.

Key Responsibilities

• Community Outreach & Services: Assist community members with resource navigation, advocacy, resource assistance, and mental health support services.
• Field & Co-Response: Respond to community needs alongside Police Officers, Police Social Workers, Code Enforcement personnel, or conduct supervised independent responses as assigned.
• Administrative Support: Perform case management documentation, client tracking, data collection, and office tasks.
• Team Collaboration: Participate in unit meetings, case reviews, and inter-agency coordination efforts.

Schedule, Supervision & Compensation

• Schedule: Part-time, Monday through Thursday (flexible scheduling around class commitments within these days).
• Compensation: Paid position.
• Supervision: Direct oversight and instruction provided by the Social Services Unit Supervisor.

Prerequisites & Clearances

• Must possess a valid Driver's License.
• Candidates must successfully pass a comprehensive law enforcement background investigation, reference check, and drug screening prior to appointment.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is a temporary part-time, training classification in which students with current enrollment in college with course work related to the area assigned can gain experience in assisting city staff in the performance of professional administrative or technical duties.

Receives general supervision from higher level staff as assigned.
