Summary/Objective:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a member of the strategic leadership team responsible for shaping the future of Philadelphia Ballet. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CFO manages complex finances, fundraising needs, and strategic growth plans exercising accountability and fiduciary oversight in influencing decisions for the organization that shape the companys long-term financial direction. The CFO advises the CEO and Board of Trustees on enterprise-wide strategy, leads investor relations, capital structure, and risk management and looks outward at markets, growth opportunities, and financial positioning.

Essential Functions:

  • Partners with CEO to drive the business and budget planning processes to ensure multiple-year financial plans are created and continually updated, reflect day-to-day operations, capital projects and engage ongoing cost reduction strategies in all areas; interprets and reports on financials and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Leads finance consulting team (Radar) activities to optimize operations including payroll, treasury and cashier operations, accounting, finance and audit activities to ensure all functions are operating efficiently and seamlessly across the organization.
  • Coordinates and manages the preparation of the annual operating budget and three annual forecasts with the various department heads.
  • Manages cash flow projections including recommendations to the Finance Committee on cash allocations and strategies, weekly cash flow management for AP, payroll and LOC management.
  • Assists the financial consulting team (Radar) in the collection and review of information required for the preparation of the annual federal Form 990 Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax by tax accountants; gather information not readily available in the financial database.
  • Oversees the preparation of monthly financial reports and statements and disseminates financial information to the Board and its Committees.
  • Leads the coordination of the finance and audit committee agendas with the board committee chair and CEO including the creation, preparation and distribution of the presentation to committees.
  • In conjunction with Radar, oversees departmental preparation for the annual financial statement audit and communication to departments when audit calendar has been established
  • Ensures a documented system of accounting policies and procedures is maintained; develops, implements, maintains, and monitors internal controls throughout the organization on an ongoing basis.
  • Reviews the annual charitable organization registration filings for Florida and other jurisdictions as required.
  • Participates in the ongoing strategic planning process.
  • Reviews major contracts and performs financial analyses as requested by CEO.
  • Administers the accounting and budgeting requirements for all capital budget and programs including RACP and other funding strategies.
  • Manages relationships with banking officials, audit consulting firms and all vendors including insurance brokers.
  • Collaborating with Radar to produce all financial information related to grants; files grant reimbursements with the appropriate governmental agencies.
  • Partners with CEO and other senior leadership to enhance and better integrate finance with other organization functions.
  • Reports to external parties and regulatory agencies regarding, but not limited to, financial reporting and accounting standards; state and federal tax laws; federal grant and cost accounting standards; data/information security to ensure timely compliance by the organization.
  • Oversees all payroll operations, including computation of deductions, preparation and verification of payrolls, maintenance of payroll records and reports.
  • Oversee the planning and forecasting for multi-year capital projects in support of major fundraising growth initiatives.
  • Management of RAMP credit cards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Expected Hours of Work: Regular business hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area travel and overnight may be expected.

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in accounting or finance.
  • CPA with public audit and non-profit performing art experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in managing business professionals in positions of increasing fiscal responsibility and leadership.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) is required.
  • Solid experience coordinating budget and forecast development and analysis.
  • Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allow for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting.
  • Understanding of nonprofit budget models and contracts.
  • Experience with RACP grants.
  • High degree of technical aptitude and advanced proficiency in use of spreadsheet, business analytics, AHD accounting software, and administrative/financial/enterprise -wide resource planning.
  • Experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, boards, or other outside partners.
  • Experience managing time and priorities to meet all goals and targets with accuracy and on time.
