Position Summary Supports and maintains the financial application platform for Kootenai Health. Takes the lead in documenting processes, procedures, and data validation that ensures the accuracy and integrity of the financial systems. Utilizes the application and takes the lead for financial report writing for the finance team and hospital management. Supports and provides comprehensive financial analysis and recommendations on a routine and ad hoc basis for organizational, service line, and project specific business decisions. Utilizes advanced database querying capabilities to extract data from financial and clinical systems to conduct detailed and complex financial analysis using various decision support tools. Presents observations, trends, and conclusions to a wide range of clinical, business and management audiences.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and supports all financial application technology to satisfy business needs

• Leads ongoing improvements for financial system modules while actively troubleshooting, identifying issues, and proposing efficiencies in data functionality and financial reporting

• Utilizes problem-solving skills to enhance system performance and streamline financial processes

• Assists in the analysis, design, implementation, and ongoing optimization of the financial system modules

• Acts as lead for financial report writing and support

• Trains users and takes responsibility for change management of new releases and enhancements

• Develops and manages complex analytic models to conduct scenario modeling and what-if analysis

• Joins large datasets from multiple sources in order to complete analysis and assists in third party reporting and surveys

• Assists in Financial Reporting platform (E.I. Axiom, PowerBI, Excel ) user security accesses

• Provides market and financial analysis for enhancing strategic growth, measures profitability to identify opportunities for margin improvement, and evaluates the financial performance of new and existing programs and services

• Analyzes financial statements, key financial indicators, financial pro formas, productivity benchmarks, and utilizes cost accounting data

• Assists in the creation of the operating budget, capital budget, and long range financial plan

• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field

• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

• Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function

• Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned

• Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field required; Master's degree preferred

• Minimum 5 years' decision support, cost accounting, or finance/accounting experience required

• 5 years' experience in the healthcare field required

• Demonstrated expertise supporting complex financial software systems required; Axiom experience preferred

• Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) certification from HFMA preferred

• Requires an analytical mind, strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, inquisitive questioning, and ability to integrate data from multiple sources

• Moderate to strong SQL and DDL (Structured Query Language & Data Definition Language) report writing capabilities to pull and organize data from various financial and clinical systems

• Proficient understanding of generally accepted accounting principles required

• Advanced proficiency in computer software applications (i.e., Microsoft Word and Excel) and database applications required

• Understanding of Financial Statement implications required

• Knowledge of the regulatory environment and reimbursement from government and private payers

• Excellent communication skills to include written and oral required
