JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and operation of facilities, equipment, and building systems to ensure a safe, functional, and compliant healthcare environment. This role supports the unique needs of a Critical Access Hospital by maintaining essential systems that directly impact patient care, safety, and regulatory compliance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Completes preventive maintenance checks and inspections of assigned equipment, reports findings to supervisor and takes appropriate action.
• Notifies maintenance department lead or director of recurring equipment malfunctions and corrective action taken, and of quality problems or supplies needed.
• Operate, monitor, and maintain boilers, chillers, and associated HVAC systems to ensure proper temperature control and air quality throughout the facility
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on hospital systems including but not limited to, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical equipment
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on steam/hot water boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and piping systems
• Conduct preventive maintenance according to established schedules and regulatory standards
• Monitor building automation systems (BAS) and adjust controls for optimal performance and energy efficiency
• Inspect and maintain critical systems such as emergency generators, medical gas systems, fire alarm systems, and life safety equipment
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repair situations
• Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and compliance documentation
• Assist with facility inspections and ensure compliance with standards
• Support infection control measures and adhere to hospital safety protocols
• Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors as needed
• Maintain hospital grounds and assist with general facility upkeep, including but not limited to, snow removal or minor construction tasks
• On-Call rotation as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and DNV standards and/or standards from other accrediting bodies.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school preferred
• Universal Certification in Refrigerants preferred.
• 2–5 years of maintenance experience, preferably in healthcare or commercial facilities
• Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general building maintenance
• Forklift Operator Training Certificate or willingness to obtain certification.
• Ability to use hand tools and trades type tools. High mental and visual effort is required.
• Ability to read blueprints and schematics, and technical manuals
• Basic computer skills for work order systems and documentation

• Works in a patient care setting where there is potential exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials; and electrical, fire, chemical, physical contact and equipment hazards.
• Fast-paced setting with rapid patient turnover.
• High patient traffic.
• Close-quartered and shared work space.
• Sufficient mobility to negotiate physical plant.
• Strength and endurance sufficient enough to perform physically for long periods of time without sitting (four to eight hours). May include: walking; lifting 25 – 50lbs with or without assistance; bending; twisting; standing; sitting; reaching; stair-climbing and descending.
• Physical dexterity and psychomotor skills to respond adequately and appropriately to routine and emergency patient care needs in an ambulatory setting.
• Visual and auditory capabilities sufficient to read information and respond to patient care needs.
• Ability to work in a computerized environment that includes prolonged sitting and use of keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
• Cognitive ability to accurately observe, analyze, and interpret general and technical data both verbal and written to accurately communicate this information.
