The 24-bed pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admits more than 1,700 patients a year and has received a gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence. The 30-bed cardiothoracic intensive care unit (CTICU) is situated in a space solely devoted to cardiac care, providing all levels of inpatient care for congenital or acquired heart disease. Advanced care modalities include extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and a heart transplantation program. The 60-bed, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) acts a major Level IV referral center for the most critically ill newborns, many of whom suffer from severe heart and lung conditions or are born extremely premature.
