Culinary Assistant

A Culinary Assistant to the Chef located Test Kitchen Facility in SE Houston, includes work as a organic prep sous chef-in -training, test kitchen assistant. This position supports the head chef this Commercial Kitchen, KDA Showroom+ facility, baking for private, corporate and public clients, catering and/or Instructional. Job Type: Part-time, Internship Their responsibilities include: Food preparation: Assisting with simple tasks like washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables, prepping and cutting meat, mixing ingredients, and sometimes making sauces as required Adhering to Kitchen safety and hygiene. Assisting with kitchen and food safety and cleanliness standards, including washing dishes and sanitizing surfaces Inventory management: Monitoring inventory and ordering new ingredients as needed Equipment maintenance: Assisting in maintaining kitchen equipment and reporting any issues to the chef. Communication Working well within a team and slightly modify recipes to meet customers’ needs and requests (e.g. reduce salt, remove dairy) Stocking: Monitor food stock and place orders as instructed Quality Control: Check freshness of food and discard out-of-date items Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen area Chef uses some farm to table products, so must be capable in some work in garden at kitchen as necessary Requirements: Some experience in proven work experience as a Chef or Cook Hands-on experience with various kitchen equipment (e.g. grillers and pasta makers) Knowledge of culinary, baking and pastry techniques Ability to remain calm and undertake various tasks Excellent time management abilities Quick Study and/ or ability to follow recipes knowledge of cooking techniques and recipes is a plus Familiarity with sanitation regulations Culinary school diploma preferred or in school is a plus Free parking Opportunities for advancement Paid time off Paid training Shift: Day shift Rotating shift Application Question(s): If money is not an object, what meal would you prefer and prepared in what manner?
