Licensed Physician Medical Director – EMS Program

Employment Type: Contract Initial Term: 1 Year (with up to 3 optional 1-year renewals)

Work Conditions:

• Onsite Required: Monthly EMS leadership meetings, QA/QI reviews, critical incidents
• Remote Work Allowed: Administrative reviews, protocol updates, consultations
• Travel: At the physician's own expense (not reimbursed by the City)

The City of South Fulton is seeking a Georgia-licensed Physician (MD or DO) to serve as Medical Director for its Fire & Rescue Department EMS Program. This is a part-time, service-based contract role providing clinical oversight for approximately 20,000 EMS responses annually. The Medical Director will be responsible for protocol approval, QA/QI, clinical training oversight, and medical direction for the City's SWAT Medic Program.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as Physician Sponsor for the City's EMS license
• Approve and maintain EMS protocols, medications, and standing orders
• Conduct regular QA/QI reviews and case audits
• Direct and support clinical education and competency programs
• Oversee the SWAT Medic Program medical training and guidance
• Liaise with EMS regulatory bodies and local hospitals
• Attend monthly onsite leadership meetings and participate in field operations as needed
• Provide remote support for documentation, review, and consults

Required Qualifications:

• Licensed MD or DO in the State of Georgia
• Board certified in Emergency Medicine or Internal Medicine
• Minimum 3 years' experience in EMS medical direction or emergency medicine
• Active DEA Registration and ACLS certification
• Knowledge of Georgia EMS laws and O.C.G.A. § 31-11
• Ability to pass a background check and maintain professional standing

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience as an EMS/Public Safety Medical Director
• Proven leadership in EMS QA/QI program development
• Experience in EMS training programs, simulations, and drills
• Familiarity with tactical EMS (SWAT Medic programs)
