Posted 26 Mar 2026 Job Description & Qualification The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, DC is seeking multiple financial economists for the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis (DERA). Candidates should have expertise in applied microeconomics fields such as finance, industrial organization, public policy, and labor. We seek individuals with a track record of creative thinking, strong empirical research abilities, and excellent communication skills. Interest in finance, securities markets and public policy is essential given our mission. In all roles, candidates must demonstrate their ability to apply their knowledge of economics and econometrics in support of the SEC’s mission to protect investors, facilitate capital formation, and ensure fair and orderly markets. We seek applicants for financial economist positions, in the following DERA offices: Office of Asset Management: Provides economic analysis related to the regulation of investment advisers, investment companies, hedge funds, and other institutional investors. Office of Corporate Finance: Provides economic analysis related to the regulation of issuers of securities. Office of Financial Intermediaries: Provides economic analysis related to the regulation of broker‑dealers, clearing agencies, and NRSROs. Office of Litigation Economics: Provides economic analysis in the context of SEC enforcement actions. Office of Markets: Provides economic analysis, including market microstructure, related to the regulation of trading in financial markets. QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE: May have been obtained in the public or private sector, including faculty appointments at academic institutions, positions in economic and financial consulting firms, and certain staff positions at U.S. financial regulators.
