From households to small businesses, schools, hospitals, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve communities and organizations operating in places without dependable internet access.We are seeking a Software Development Manager to lead the team responsible for building and owning the RTI infrastructure and automation framework. This role sits at the intersection of people leadership, automation, data analytics, and MAC domain expertise, OS domain expertise, with the goal of democratizing OS features on embedded system.As the SDM for this team, you will hire, develop, and lead a team of SDEs building the RTI system and OS bring up for a custom ASIC in LEO system. you will maintain the OS drivers, IPC, telemetry, dashboards from the custom ASIC Key job responsibilitiesPeople & Team LeadershipHire, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of SDEs focused on embedded and automationSet technical direction and priorities, balancing short-term deliverables with long-term architectural investmentsFoster a culture of operational excellence, innovation, and continuous improvementDrive career development for team members, providing regular coaching and feedbackCollaborate cross-functionally with MAC domain experts, release teams, and system teams to align on roadmaps and dependenciesOwn the end-to-end delivery of RTI system software, including OS drivers, Inter-Process Communication (IPC) frameworks, and telemetry infrastructureDrive OS bring-up activities for the custom ASIC, ensuring stable and performant firmware foundationsMaintain and evolve OS drivers to support hardware capabilities and system requirementsOversee the design and maintenance of telemetry pipelines and operational dashboards for system health monitoringMake architecture decisions that balance performance, reliability, and maintainability for space-grade embedded systemsExport Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Basic qualifications- 3+ years of engineering team management experience- 7+ years of engineering experience- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations- Experience partnering with product or program management teams- 5+ years of embedded firmware development experience, or Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in computer science or equivalent- Experience writing low level drivers, or experience with general troubleshooting/debugging of hardware- Experience working with device technologies under development, familiarity with flashing firmware, basic device debugging and familiarity with reading/pulling device logsPreferred qualification - Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers- 2+ years of Linux operating systems experience, or experience with network hardware: copper and optical fiber cabling, switches, routers- Master's degree in Electrical/Communications Engineering, or 5+ years of wireless communications systems and implementation experience- Experience managing data pipelines- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processesAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
