IoT Edge Software Engineer

Salary: $68,076 - 141,826 per year Requirements:

• We require a bachelors degree in a quantitative discipline such as engineering, mathematics, electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, information technology, or information systems.
• We require at least 3 years of software engineering experience.
• We require 1 year of experience developing backend services and APIs for cloud-based, IoT-enabled, or regulated federal systems.
• We require at least 1 year of experience applying modern software development methods such as Agile, DevOps, or DevSecOps in a professional or academic environment.
• We require the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
• We prefer experience applying programming concepts in a professional or academic setting.
• We prefer proficiency in Python, Java, or similar backend/API development languages.
• We prefer familiarity with AWS GovCloud, Greengrass, and secure data integration in DoD environments.
• We prefer experience implementing RBAC, organizational hierarchy, and secure authentication and authorization controls.
• We prefer knowledge of DoD cybersecurity, privacy, and RMF requirements for IL4/IL5 systems.
• We prefer experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and DevSecOps practices.
• We prefer strong documentation and communication skills, including the ability to produce technical specifications and API documentation.
• We prefer experience supporting data migration, legacy system integration, and operational troubleshooting in large enterprise environments.

• We design, develop, and maintain edge software modules for IoT gateways, including BLE dosimeter communication, device management, and secure data transfer.
• We implement and refine AWS Greengrass components for deployment on Linux-based gateway hardware.
• We build and support secure device authentication, data encryption, and remote firmware update capabilities.
• We integrate edge software with AWS IoT Core, MQTT messaging, and cloud services.
• We support both real-time and batch ingestion workflows, including disconnected operations and automated re-synchronization.
• We collaborate with backend, security, and DevSecOps teams to meet DoD IL4, FedRAMP, and RMF compliance requirements.
• We troubleshoot, tune, and improve edge software performance, reliability, and security.
• We maintain detailed technical documentation for edge software, deployment steps, and operating procedures.
• We participate in code reviews, security assessments, and compliance audits as needed.
• We provide technical support for field deployment, user acceptance testing, and ongoing edge solution operations.
