Medical Assistant

Position Summary: Medical Assistants perform administrative and clinical under the direction of licensed healthcare provider.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Review EHR and prepare patients records for office visits
• Maintain patient flow
• Maintain exam rooms (cleanliness and supplies)
• Go over current medications with patient at each office visit and reconcile medication list in ONCO EMR
• Scan in all incoming records into patients ONCO EMR system
• Obtain vitals and other medical information from patient for office visit and enter information into ONCO
• Schedule patients for follow up in office laboratory studies
• Set up and assist providers with medical examinations/bone marrow biopsy procedure
• Return patient phone calls
• Injections upon request (only growth factor and B12 after fully being checked by RN that it is the correct RX and interval time to administer)
• Obtain Advanced Care Directive from patient and enter information in ONCO EMR system
• Obtain Plan of Care for pain from patient and enter information in ONCO EMR system
• Obtain via venipuncture and process CBC'S, CMP, PT/INRS and glucose monitoring as ordered by physician and enter information in ONCO EMR system
• Perform and/or assist with EKG'S
• Triage patients in person and on the telephone
• Answer telephone calls and messages within the same day
• Place reminder calls to all patients being seen by providers the next day (make sure this gets done prior to 4pm each day)
• Other tasks as requested by management
• Other site-specific tasks
• For bilingual employees, translate for patient and providers during medical interviews
• Work with other team members and managers to implement daily duties and new programs as needed

Qualification/Requirement:

• Ability to apply a common sense understanding to carry out detailed and involved written and/or oral instructions.
• Ability to deal with problems involving occasional, last-minute changes in generally standardized situations.

Education/Training/Experience:

• Medical Assistant Certification

The employee must be able to assist patients in and out of chemo chairs and on and off exam tables. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
