This position plays a key role in bringing Career Technical Education (CTE) to life through hands-on STEM experiences that connect learning to future careers. Through robotics, engineering, technology, and real-world problem-solving, students build industry-relevant skills while developing the confidence to innovate, create, and succeed in a rapidly evolving world.

Clear Credential: $81,885/year - $103,721/year
Preliminary Credential: $70,967/year
Intern Credential: $68,128.32/year

How You Will Make an Impact

The STEM Teacher serves as the primary site-based leader for the implementation of the Education Technology Plan. This role is a hybrid instructional coach and student mentor, responsible for building staff capacity in digital tools while leading high-impact student programs in Robotics, Esports, and STEM. The teacher carries a small case load and ensures that technology integration aligns with the mission, vision, and "non-negotiables" of the Independent Study model. This position involves collaboration with other instructional staff and school personnel and reports to the Principal or their designee.


This position is funded through the Career Technical Education Incentive (CTEIG) Grant

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

  • Support and lead the rollout of the Education Technology Plan in alignment with site goals and regional initiatives and non-negotiables.
  • Practice detailed record keeping and reporting in support of student achievement and continuous program improvements.
  • Analyze engagement data within our digital systems to identify trends and coordinate interventions to ensure student retention and success.
  • Facilitate student-led portfolio showcases to maintain a program of career preparation and STEM-focused workshops.
  • Conduct student workshops and lead daily sessions for students in digital skills, robotics, esports, and other STEM-related fields.
  • Facilitate STEM clubs and activities such as the Robotics Team, Engineering Team, or others as assigned
  • Transport and supervise students at club activities, such as Robotics Competitions, which may be outside of normal school days and hours.
  • Attend STEM county or statewide events as assigned.
  • Guide students through project-based learning and provide it through authentic and transformative learning experiences.
  • Instruct and monitor student progress in the use of online learning materials and technology.
  • Carefully observe, review, and evaluate student homework and tests to assess and monitor progress.
  • Provide students with meaningful feedback to enhance learning and improve achievement.
  • Engage students in academic conversations that elicit critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication.
  • Develop, review, and regularly update personalized academic plans based on students' transcripts, assessment data, career pathway planning (CTE), post-secondary goals, and progress towards those goals.
  • Grade course homework, projects, and tests.
  • Oversee the site's "Innovation Lab" or STEM equipment, ensuring hardware is optimized for both staff and student use.
  • Provide 1-on-1 and small-group coaching to staff to build capacity for meaningful technology integration to close the feedback loop (Google Workspace, Kami, AI Tools).
  • Design and deliver high-quality professional learning experiences for educators, both in-person and virtually.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning and personal growth to improve instructional strategies and practices.
  • Maintain industry-recognized certificates and credentials as appropriate and attend related training as directed.
  • Collaborate with core teachers and other school staff for student success in attendance and achievement.
  • Practice effective classroom management.
  • Attend and participate in department and school staff meetings.
  • Attend graduation ceremonies.
  • Participate, as assigned by the academic leader, in all state and school-mandated testing.
  • Attend assigned professional development activities.
  • Interact with all school personnel in a respectful and courteous manner.
  • Build a relationship with the student like that of a customer or client.
  • Always address the students and parents in a professional manner.
  • Always available during school operating hours.
  • Adhere to the attendance policy.
  • Perform administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities as assigned, which may be changed or modified from time to time.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of California Teaching Standards.
  • Knowledge of core academic subject(s) assigned.
  • Deep knowledge of frameworks for purposeful technology integration.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace for Education, Kami, and STEM platforms (Robotics/E-sports software).
  • Highly motivated with excellent verbal/written communication and the ability to influence key decision-makers.
  • A "self-starter" with strong organizational skills who can handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, Independent Study environment.
  • Knowledge of high school credits, graduation requirements, interventions, and alternative educational programs, including independent study.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Independent Study, Personal Learning, and Distance Learning education models.
  • Knowledge of research-based instructional strategies is necessary for effective instruction of all student populations, including students at risk of academic failure.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, and socioeconomic groups.
  • Ability to work effectively with parents, staff members, and community representatives in providing a rigorous educational program.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including giving clear and concise instructions, using academic language, an appropriate delivery level, listening without bias, and providing proper feedback/reinforcement.
  • Ability to make independent judgments, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate student records.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university required.
  • Valid California credential with endorsements for the subject and level assigned or intern eligible.
  • English Learner Authorization required.
  • 3-5 years of teaching or coaching experience; experience in leadership roles preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience with STEM/Robotics or youth-based tech programs.
  • California Driver's License, DMV pull-notice, or LLAC Driver certification.
  • Knowledge of Student Information Systems (SIS) and related Educational Systems
  • Advanced level of skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other technology applications.
  • Ability to travel in performance of job duties is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Vision: Ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolonged periods, prepare, or inspect documents and operate office equipment.
  • Hearing : Ability to hear average or typical conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Speech : Ability to be understood in face-to-face communication, in person or virtually, to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone or computer.
  • Mental Demands: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret, and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records. Frequent multi-tasking, changing of task priorities, repetitious exacting work. Understand how to manage stress, high workflow management, high project coordination, and high people engagement.
  • Upper Body Mobility : Ability to use fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together, use hands to grasp, and manipulate small objects; twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head.
  • Strength: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to
    10 pounds.
  • Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Work in a moderate to high noise environment with frequent deadline pressures.
