Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Parking Enforcement Technician monitors assigned areas for parking violations and enforces applicable city, state, and county vehicle and parking ordinances, codes, and regulations within the authority of the assignment. The technician provides information to the public, prepares citations and reports, identifies parking equipment and signage issues, and performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Parking Enforcement & Patrol

• Patrol assigned areas to identify parking violations involving passenger cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles, and other vehicles; enforce applicable local ordinances and state vehicle-code requirements.
• Issue parking citations for expired meters, violations of timed or designated parking zones, parking in crosswalks or on sidewalks, expired registrations, improper licensing, and other applicable violations.
• Place warning tags on vehicles subject to towing and arrange towing of abandoned, illegally parked, or improperly licensed vehicles as authorized by applicable procedures.
• Document citation details accurately, including the violated code provision, time, date, location, license plate number, and/or vehicle identification number.
• Sign off on correctable registration and equipment citations when authorized.

Public Interaction & Incident Response

• Answer public inquiries about parking and related traffic laws, public buildings, parks, municipal facilities, and other local points of interest.
• Respond professionally and respectfully to public complaints, including interactions with upset or confrontational individuals.
• Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor while explaining applicable parking requirements and enforcement actions.

Records, Documentation & Equipment Reporting

• Maintain records of enforcement work performed and monitor long-term parking violations.
• Prepare declarations describing citation circumstances to support prosecution or administrative review of parking violations when required.
• Tag or report malfunctioning parking meters, faded curb markings, vandalized signs, and other barriers that may affect enforcement or public understanding of parking rules.
• Report malfunctioning enforcement vehicles and coordinate their transfer to the designated service or repair location.

Company Procedures & Operational Support

• Review, understand, and acknowledge company policies and procedures directly supporting assigned duties when requested.
• Perform related enforcement or operational duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

• When requested by local management, perform minor cleaning or maintenance tasks in accordance with company maintenance checklists.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Project Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Ability to read and comprehend verbal instructions and written correspondence.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Possession and maintenance of a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to safely operate vehicles with standard or automatic transmissions.
• Ability to maintain a professional and friendly demeanor with employees, customers, and members of the public.
• Ability to resolve customer concerns professionally and courteously.

Preferred Qualifications

• One to two years of experience in a service or related industry preferred, including at least three months in a parking environment.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations.

Performance Standards

This position receives an annual performance review from the direct supervisor to assess actual performance against company expectations and agreed-upon job-related goals for the upcoming year.

• Stand, walk, and sit for varying periods during assigned shifts and patrols.

• Move safely through parking facilities, outdoor areas, and other assigned enforcement locations.

Work Environment

Work is performed in parking facilities, streets, lots, and other assigned enforcement areas. Employees may be exposed to changing weather conditions, vehicle fumes and airborne particles, and noise levels ranging from minimal to moderate.

Regular contact with location management, corporate office employees, peers, and field employees.

External Contacts

Regular contact with customers, members of the public, vendors, and property management or client representatives.

Actual compensation will be determined based on the assigned location, relevant experience, and other job-related qualifications.
