The Aquaculture Specialist in state service is a staff specialist which is substantially engaged in project proposal evaluation, contract preparation and execution and project monitoring; funding opportunities; reviews various complex plans, proposals and development projects for overall technical feasibility and makes appropriate recommendations. Conducts complex research and develops recommendations to aquaculture producers which involves comprehensive knowledge of industry policies, rules and regulations.

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements: Legal Authorization to Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States. Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a major in animal sciences, aquaculture, marine sciences, or a closely related field. Specialized Experience: Four (4) years of professional work experience in aquaculture commercial production, aquaculture program administration or aquaculture research. Such work must have provided knowledge in the areas of scientific and/or business elements of aquaculture. Examples of acceptable experience in the above areas are: 1) scientific elements of aquaculture - work which involved knowledge of several pertinent factors such as species biology, site assessment, pond design and development, harvesting techniques, disease diagnosis and prevention, health management, water quality management, water chemistry, soil analysis and/or production management; and 2) business elements of aquaculture - work which included concern with optimum management of an aquaculture business, e.g., efficiency of production and reduction of production costs. Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment. Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. Paid Sick Leave You may earn sick leave at the same rate as vacation – 21 days per year from the FIRST year, and there is no limit on the amount you can accumulate. Expectant mothers may also use sick leave for pre-natal or post-natal check-ups or any illness related to pregnancy. Plus, unused accumulated sick leave may eventually be used to increase your retirement benefits in certain situations.

Other Leaves Reasonable time off with pay may be provided for jury or witness duty, a death in the family, some military duty, and donation to the Blood Bank. Leave sharing donations may be granted to eligible employees who have serious personal illnesses or injuries or need to care for a seriously ill or injured family member. Retirement Plan The State contributes to a retirement plan for eligible employees. Generally, employees under the Hybrid Plan with 10 years of credited service and who have reached 65 years of age or have 30 years of credited service and have reached 60 years of age may retire and receive benefits.
