Murphy VA Medical Center located at 1501 San Pedro Dr. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. Services will be delivered to all requesting departments throughout the facility. To address these challenges, we employ intelligent and committed staff who take care of our customers' success as if it is their own.ResponsibilitiesStain slides via routine stains, immunostains, and special stainsPrepare a wide variety of special stained slides requiring many complex and delicate processesPerform a variety of extremely difficult, delicate, and complex tissue testsPerform sectioning of tissue with the use of a clinical microtomePerform routine and multiple staining of tissue sections including careful timing and counterstainingPerform cover slipping of slides and prepare tissue for electron microscopic studyLabel slides for final microscopic examinationPerform administrative tasks related to the position such as maintaining records, receiving of patient specimens, labeling of slides and answering telephone inquiriesPerforms other duties as assigned relating to the responsibilities of a Histology TechnologistQualificationsA Bachelor-level degree in a related field from an accredited educational institutionASCP professional certification or equivalent Nationally-recognized Histology Technologist certification or categorical certification in histopathologyA minimum of one (1) year of experience within the last three (3) years (2-3 years in an acute care setting is preferred)Experience in U.S. Government facilities in preferredAll candidates must be able to:Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shiftLift up to 50 lbs from floor to waistLift up to 20 lbsCarry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distancePush/pull with 30 lbs of forceAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
