Commodity Manager (Electrical) Location: Riverside, CA Salary Range: $121,100 - $140,520 Position Summary The Commodity Manager(Electrical) reports to the Director of Strategic Sourcing and owns the end-to-end strategy, sourcing, commercial performance, supplier portfolio, and risk profile for assigned High & Low Voltage systems and Wiring commodities for application across the product lifecycle. This role converts business and product roadmaps into executable category strategies; leads make-versus-buy decisions, Sourcing Council governance, competitive sourcing, negotiations, contracting, and supplier quarterly business reviews; and delivers measurable cost, cash, quality, delivery, capacity, innovation, and resilience outcomes. The Commodity Manager leads cross-functional work with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, Program Management, Planning, Legal, and suppliers to support new product introduction, stable production, and long-term enterprise value. Key Responsibilities Own and execute a multi-year commodity strategy aligned with product, technology, operations, sustainability, financial, and regional roadmaps; define preferred suppliers, sourcing waves, negotiation levers, and value targets. Create fact-based spend and market intelligence covering demand, cost drivers, supply-demand dynamics, capacity, technology shifts, raw-material indices, regulatory trends, geographic exposure, and supplier financial health. Lead make-versus-buy analyses with Operations, Engineering, and Finance, comparing internal investment and capacity, fixed and variable cost, quality, intellectual property, speed, scalability, and continuity risk; document assumptions, sensitivities, recommendations, approvals, and post-decision results. Prepare and lead Sourcing Council reviews with complete sourcing cases, alternatives, weighted supplier evaluations, total-cost economics, risks, recommendation, implementation plan, and approval record; do not place business before required cross-functional and delegated-authority approvals are complete. Lead requests for information, quotation, and proposal; supplier due diligence; technical and commercial evaluation; negotiation; nomination; contracting; and transition using transparent requirements and competitive tension. Apply total cost of ownership, should-cost and clean-sheet models, cost breakdown analysis, benchmarking, index-based pricing, design-to-value, and value analysis/value engineering to identify and sustain structural cost improvements. Partner with Legal and stakeholders to establish agreements covering pricing, productivity, payment terms, capacity, tooling, intellectual property, quality, warranty, service, change control, confidentiality, compliance, and termination. Segment the supplier portfolio and lead executive and quarterly business reviews for strategic suppliers using scorecards for delivery, quality, cost, capacity, innovation, sustainability, responsiveness, and risk; maintain owners, due dates, escalation paths, and verified closure for every material action. Build and deliver a Finance-validated value pipeline covering purchased-cost reduction, purchase price variance, cost avoidance, payment terms, tooling and nonrecurring expense, freight, inventory, and other total-cost opportunities. Lead commodity sourcing for new product introduction, including early supplier involvement, RFQ timing, source nomination, APQP/PPAP alignment, tooling and capacity readiness, and launch risk closure to support clear-to-build. Own supply continuity for the commodity by identifying sole-source, capacity, financial, geopolitical, raw-material, quality, logistics, and compliance risks and implementing dual-source, localization, buffer, or contingency strategies. Coordinate constraint, allocation, capacity, and long-lead recovery with Planning, Operations, Logistics, and suppliers; secure credible commits and elevate threats before production or customer impact. Manage engineering-change, product-lifecycle, end-of-life, obsolescence, and last-time-buy commercial impacts while protecting continuity and minimizing excess, obsolete, and nonrecoverable inventory. Maintain accurate approved-source, contract, pricing, supplier-master, ERP/MRP, tooling, forecast, and decision records; comply with ethical sourcing, conflict-of-interest, export, confidentiality, audit, and segregation-of-duties controls. Lead cross-functional problem solving and continuous improvement using standard work, root-cause analysis, supplier development, lessons learned, and concise executive communication to improve sourcing speed and decision quality. Required travel up to 30% (domestic and international). World-Class Performance Expectations: Strategy and governance: Maintain an approved commodity strategy and rolling sourcing pipeline; complete Sourcing Council decisions and supplier awards on time with documented alternatives, economics, risks, and accountable owners. Cost, total value, and cash: Deliver Finance-validated savings, purchase price variance, cost avoidance, payment-term, tooling, inventory, and total-cost commitments with controlled baselines, implementation evidence, and no value leakage. Supplier performance and QBRs: Complete the approved business-review cadence for strategic suppliers and achieve site goals for on-time-in-full delivery, quality, responsiveness, capacity, innovation, and timely corrective-action closure. Risk and resilience: Maintain current commodity and supplier risk maps, business-continuity actions, and alternate-source plans for critical exposure; eliminate unmanaged single-source and capacity risks or formally accept and govern them. NPI and production readiness: Achieve sourcing, contracting, tooling, APQP/PPAP, capacity, and supplier-readiness milestones that support clear-to-build and launch objectives without avoidable premium cost or supply interruption. Leadership and control: Influence decisions across functions, communicate tradeoffs early, maintain accurate data and contract coverage, close commitments on time, and demonstrate full compliance with sourcing and approval controls. Position Requirements Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in supply chain, business, engineering, finance, operations, or a related discipline is required; an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience may be considered. 7+ years of progressive strategic sourcing, commodity, category, purchasing, or supplier-management experience in a manufacturing environment, including leadership of complex sourcing and negotiation workstreams. Ability to build and execute commodity strategies using spend analytics, market intelligence, supplier segmentation, technology roadmaps, cost drivers, sourcing pipelines, and clearly defined value and risk objectives. Strong make-versus-buy and business-case capability, including internal capacity and investment, fixed and variable cost, quality, intellectual property, speed, scalability, sensitivity analysis, and post-decision validation. Experience with Sourcing Council governance, decision rights, RACI, cross-functional supplier evaluation, approval workflows, decision logs, implementation ownership, and executive-level recommendation framing. Advanced commercial and cost-management capability, including RFx, negotiation planning, total cost of ownership, should-cost and clean-sheet models, cost breakdowns, indexation, benchmarking, and value analysis/value engineering. Working knowledge of supplier contracts and commercial terms covering pricing, payment, productivity, capacity, tooling, intellectual property, warranty, service, quality, change control, confidentiality, and termination. Ability to lead supplier relationship management, executive reviews, quarterly business reviews, scorecards, corrective actions, supplier development, commercial escalation, and fact-based performance improvement. Knowledge of automotive new product introduction and product lifecycle processes, including APQP, PPAP, tooling, capacity validation, engineering changes, launch readiness, obsolescence, and end-of-life management. Strong financial, analytical, and systems skills using ERP/MRP, PLM, e-sourcing tools, Microsoft Excel, and business intelligence to manage cost, cash, forecasts, risk, milestones, data quality, and executive reporting. High-integrity matrix leadership with strong communication, facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution, change management, and judgment; able to influence technical and business leaders without relying on formal authority.
