Communications Manager Division: Institutional Advancement Department/Office: Marketing & Communications The Marketing & Communications Department at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full‑time Communications Manager position. This role will oversee the communications strategy across all channels owned and managed by the Office of Communications, including community emails, newsletters, social media, media relations, the website, and University publications. The Communications Manager will be responsible for ensuring strategic messaging and brand consistency, including visual look and feel, across all content. In collaboration with the Director of Communications and Art Director, the Communications Manager will align activities, ensure operational effectiveness, and maximize ROI. The role includes cross‑functional coordination with internal partners to highlight University news, promote academic programs, and build engagement. The Communications Manager serves as managing editor of the St. Catherine University news site, oversees other team members, and acts as assignment editor for newsworthy events. Major duties include: Provide leadership, vision, and direction to team and clients. Manage editorial team, including students and freelancers. Develop and maintain strong, positive relationships with faculty, staff, senior leaders, and administrators. Create an environment that supports collaboration, high‑quality work, and creativity. Develop content calendar to align with and support other communications activities. Work collaboratively to strategically integrate and align efforts. Produce content for website, email, newsletters, and other channels. Disseminate key internal communications pieces with appropriate partners. Write news releases, bylined articles, e‑newsletters, and social media content. Implement comprehensive media strategy to enhance reputation, brand awareness, and thought leadership. Lead coordinated efforts to generate media coverage across all university areas. Stay up to date on relevant topics to position experts and research in stories. Assist with crisis management and negative communications. Maintain severe‑weather notification plan and execute communications as needed. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or related liberal arts degree. Three years of related full‑time experience (1,500 hours/year or more). Student work experience considered at 10 hours/week. Volunteer experience may not be counted as work experience. Additional Skills Superior AP‑style writing and editing skills, tailoring messaging to diverse audiences. Strong attention to detail. Robust knowledge of print and electronic publications and best practices. Superior project‑management skills; ability to develop and complete projects independently, respond timely, and meet deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft and Google suites. Excellent verbal and written communication, team, and client‑management skills. Ability to work well with internal and external partners. Ability to meet tight deadlines, juggle numerous projects, and work under pressure. Collegial attitude and willingness to collaborate across functions, with flexibility to perform strategic thinking and daily management tasks.
