Travel Registered Nurse Infusion/Oncology

You will be working as a Travel RN in the Med Surg/Tele unit which specializes in infusion and oncology. This unit has 27 beds and provides care for complex patients with a variety of diagnoses.

Job Overview

• Shift: Nights, four 12-hour shifts per week, every other weekend and holiday

About the Unit

• Number of beds: 27
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: Day/Eve 1:4-5, Noc 1:6 (higher if working short)
• Common diagnoses: Oncology/hematology; general medical; GI bleed; PE/DVT; sepsis; CHF; COPD; pneumonia; FTT; weakness
• Required to titrate drips: Yes
• Common drips: Insulin, heparin, cardizem, nitro, amiodarone, octreotide; blood transfusions
• Charge nurse and house supervisor on all shifts; charge nurse takes a modified patient assignment
• Nurse aides available with a ratio of 1:7-9 on day/eve and 1:14 overnight
• RT oversees multiple units, in-house 24/7
• Schedule made by a scheduler with flexibility for travelers
• Orientation is 1 day of computer training and 1 twelve-hour shift on the floor
• Charting system: Cerner
• Dress code: Any color scrubs; no logos from other health systems

Requirements

• 1 year of acute care experience
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Comfort with complex patients and experience with drips
• No oncology or chemotherapy knowledge required
