SQL Server Database Administrator Responsibilities
- Design, implement, maintain, tune, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Managed Instance databases.
- Perform database installations, upgrades, migrations, configuration, data modeling, and performance tuning.
- Implement and support high-availability solutions, including SQL Server Always On.
- Develop backup, recovery, verification testing, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Troubleshoot database issues and collaborate with infrastructure teams on patching and maintenance.
- Ensure database security, compliance, documentation, and adherence to organizational standards.
- Partner with application developers, system administrators, network teams, and help desk resources.
- Design automation solutions, procedures, technical standards, and database best practices.
- Evaluate emerging database technologies and provide technical guidance to junior staff.
- 8+ years of relevant database/system administration experience, including MS SQL Server.
- 5+ years of hands-on SQL Server Database Administrator experience.
- Expert knowledge of SQL Server, Windows Server, Microsoft Azure, SQL Managed Instance, Azure Storage, and Azure security fundamentals.
- Strong SQL expertise and experience with database performance optimization and query tuning.
- Experience implementing SQL Server high availability/Always On.
- Advanced troubleshooting, analytical, scripting, automation, and technical documentation skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent qualifying experience.
- Python programming knowledge.
- Experience with UNIX/Linux, Oracle, shell scripting, SAN environments, and general-purpose programming languages.
- Microsoft technology certifications.
- Strong communication, leadership, planning, and mentoring skills.
