The Cook 1 performs skilled cooking duties and food preparation. The position works as a cold food cook and overseeing the tasks of others by assigning, instructing and reviewing their works. The position participates in the preparation and service of all cold foods during a shift. This position reports to the Food Service Manager.

This is a 10-month cyclical position.

Position Salary Range: $3,251/month - $4,298/month.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This is a Classified, overtime eligible position and represented by the Washington Public Employee Association of Higher Education (WPEA-HE).

Bellevue College (BC) Food Services serves the college main campus by offering a full service cafeteria, three coffee shops and a Pizza Cafe (Housing) that serve hot food, light snacks, pastries, espresso, tea and beverages.

High School diploma or equivalent education/ experience

At least one (1) year of cooking experience in a large scale food service or culinary operation.

Knowledge of:

Food values and nutrition.

Personal hygiene, food handling, sanitation, and safety precautions.

Care and use of kitchen utensils and equipment.

Record keeping (e.g., inventory).

Report preparation (e.g., supply levels and usage).

Demonstrated effective communication skills and ability to follow written and oral instruction.

Demonstrated effective customer service skills with employees, students, and visitors.

Demonstrated ability to work on several projects simultaneously.

Must have King County food handler's permit within 14 days of hire.

Experience working with diverse colleagues or students in a collaborative and inclusive environment.

Serve Safe and Culinary Arts certification.

Completion of a course in large-scale cooking may be substituted for one year of experience.

This position is NOT eligible for relocation allowance.
