This hands-on architect will play a key role in designing, building, maintaining, and evolving EDL and its supporting data platforms. The role will enable faster, repeatable ingestion into EDL and secure, governed consumption of data from EDL. You will work closely with IT and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable data solutions, provide technical leadership across architecture and implementation, and support EDL audit processes and entitlement frameworks.This role reports to Director - Data Technologies.This hybrid position will be based out of our Kansas City, Missouri office.This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship, now or in the future.How You Will Make an ImpactDesign, build, maintain, and evolve EDL and supporting data platforms across ingestion, storage, processing, integration, and governed data consumption.Partner with IT and business stakeholders to understand data needs, translate business and technical requirements into solution designs, and align implementation with enterprise architecture, security, and development standards.Develop reusable ingestion patterns and automate onboarding, testing, and deployment to accelerate data delivery into EDL while improving scalability, reliability, and maintainability.Design and implement governed data consumption patterns and entitlement frameworks in partnership with security and governance stakeholders, enabling appropriate access to EDL data for business and IT consumers.Support EDL audit and control processes through architecture and process documentation, access-control evidence, entitlement reviews, and remediation of identified platform control gaps.Apply AWS DevOps practices to deploy and sustain production data solutions, including infrastructure as code, CI/CD, monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational improvements.Evaluate emerging data technologies and integration frameworks to improve EDL platform capabilities and practices.Provide technical leadership in an agile environment, helping the team scope, estimate, and plan delivery while guiding architecture and design decisions.Mentor junior developers by both leading by example and coachingWhat You Bring to the Team (Required)Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field of study, or equivalent relevant work experienceAbility to translate business requirements into data solution and application architectures, clearly communicate design decisions and trade-offs, and collaborate with IT and business stakeholders.Strong understanding and hands-on experience designing, deploying, and supporting production data solutions in AWS, including serverless processing, orchestration, infrastructure as code, monitoring, and information security.Hands-on AWS DevOps experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, build and artifact/package management, automated testing and deployment, and infrastructure as code using tools such as AWS CloudFormation or Terraform.Understanding of governed data access, IAM and role-based entitlements, least-privilege principles, encryption, and audit logging for cloud data platforms.5+ years of demonstrated experience in object-oriented or functional programming languages, including hands-on Python development; Java experience is also relevant.5+ years of proven experience with AWS services used in data solutions, such as CloudFormation, S3, Lambda, IAM, EMR, and KMS.7+ years of hands-on engineering experience implementing and supporting data ingestion and transformation pipelines using ETL/ELT and data lake or operational data store patterns.5+ years of experience using SDLC and Agile5+ years of experience with RDBMS Technologies such as MySQL, Postgres, and MSSQL5+ years of ESB/Messaging/Integration tools such as Kafka or SQSProven track record of leading and mentoring in a multi-functional collaborative team environment including varied business units, vendors, countries and culturesDemonstrates the American Century Investments Winning Behaviors: Client Focused, Courageous and Accountable, Collaborative, Curious and Adaptable, Competitively Driven.Additional Assets (Preferred)Experience in data modeling, schema design/development, and dimensional modelingAWS CertificationExperience designing, deploying, and supporting production cloud services in AWS ecosystem including EC2, Kinesis, ECS, ELBExperience designing, building, or consuming data APIs to enable secure data ingestion, integration, or governed consumption is a plus; familiarity with event-driven architecture and microservices is also desirable.Experience with advanced analytics tools and languages such as R, Python, Java, SAS, and othersTest automation design and implementation experienceExperience with ETL tools such as IDMC, TSQL, SSIS, or Matillion1+ years of data visualization with tools such as Tableau, or PowerBIExperience in working with financial product datasetsExperience supporting audit evidence, access reviews, and control processes in a regulated or audited technology environment.The above statements are not intended to be a complete list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required.What We OfferCompetitive compensation package with bonus planGenerous PTO and competitive benefits401k with 5% company match plus annual performance-based discretionary contributionTuition reimbursement, formal mentorship program, live and online learningLearn more about our benefits and perks.Employees are required to be in the office on a scheduled frequency.
