Position Summary: Directs and provides nursing care to patients and/or residents at the direction of physicians and supervise the day to day nursing activities of nursing staff such as LPN's, CNA's, and Unit Clerks by performing the following duties personally. Responsible for ensuring that all critical tasks are fulfilled on a timely basis. Critical Tasks: Ensures that patients and residents are comfortable and well cared for according to state and federal regulations as well as contemporary nursing practices.
- Ensures exceptional and very highly responsive nursing care for all patients and residents through personal actions and through all actions by staff members for whom this position holder supervises.
- Prepares equipment and aids physicians during treatment and examination of patients and residents.
- Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patients and residents.
- Assess and provide comprehensive wound care and treatment designed to prevent skin breakdown.
- Observes patients and residents, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or physician of patient's or resident's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
- Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal while assessing condition of patients and residents.
- Responds very rapidly to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
- Ensures full Minimum Data Set (MDS) regulatory compliance while while coordinating fully with other staff members to ensure same.
- Initiates a patient or resident education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by physician and/or facility policy including patient and family instruction.
- Rotates as required among various clinical services, specialties, units and operations of the enterprise.
- Makes beds, bathes and feeds patients.
- Participates in department or unit quality improvement activities.
- Takes all steps and actions necessary to ensure full enterprise compliance with all state and federal regulations and medical standards and ensures that all employees directly supervised do the same without fail.
- Provides medications to patients only as specifically ordered and documented with 100% accuracy in terms of medicine, dose and timing.
- Reviews physician's orders, lab requests, or follow-up needs with patients and residents.
- Charts patient and resident data in compliance with Medicare requirements while accurately noting abnormal findings and changes in patient and resident condition.
- Administers specified medications, orally or by subcutaneous or intermuscular injection, and notes time and amount on patients' charts as directed only by medical staff.
- Collects samples such as urine, blood, and sputum, from patients for testing.
- Performs all duties only within competency, certification and licensure limitations.
- Performs all duties with the highest level of cleanliness and when appropriate, sterility.
- Receives and transcribes physician orders with 100% accuracy.
- Transcribes chart orders and ensures that all ordered medications are available as prescribed.
- Records food and fluid intake and output.
- Maintains supplies, including stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
- Responds to patient inquiries by evaluating and responding to the patient's problems and questions.
- Coordinates referrals for patients through insurance and other physician offices.
- Demonstrates ability to regularly change priorities to accomplish all tasks despite frequent interruptions.
- Demonstrates ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing, while performing all essential functions.
- Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.
- Licensed Registered Nurse; Bachelors' Degree preferred
- Registered Nurse licensure in Arizona in good standing or qualified Compact Licensure.
- Current and continuing BLS training and certification.
- Demonstrated ability to related to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Indian Community and/or other Native American cultures.
- Licensed Registered Nurse; Bachelors' Degree preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience providing nursing care in the behavioral health field preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with mental health disorders, substance use disorders, or co-occurring conditions preferred.
- Experience in care coordination, case management preferred
- Experience working in integrated care teams preferred
- Current and continuing CPR and AED training and certifications.
- AZ Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- State of AZ Driver's License with no significant violations during the last 5 years.
- Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
- Licensed Registered Nurse; Bachelors' Degree preferred.
- Registered Nurse Licensure in Arizona in good standing or qualified Compact Licensure.
- Current and continuing CPR and AED training and certifications.
- AZ Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
- Licensed Registered Nurse; Bachelors' Degree preferred.
- Current and continuing BLS and Advanced Cardiac Life Support, training and certification.
- Current and continuing Pediatric Advanced Life Support or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
- Minimum one year of nursing (or similar) acute care work experience; Emergency Department or critical care experience preferred.
- Ability to tolerate frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds independently, heavier with assistance.
- Ability to respond quickly in high-stress, fast-paced situations
- Possess manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate equipment and perform procedures.
- Possess tolerance for exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, and emotionally charged situations.
- Preferred qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); previous Emergency Department or ICU experience; Charge Nurse or leadership experience; and proficiency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems (Cerner).
- Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services
- Licensed Registered Nurse; Bachelors' Degree preferred.
- Registered Nurse Licensure in Arizona in good standing or qualified Compact Licensure.
- Current and continuing BLS and Advanced Cardiac Life Support, training and certification.
- Minimum of one year nursing experience preferred.
- Ability to perform routine and complex wound care.
- Flexibility with schedule and patient assignments.
- Ability to tolerate frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds independently, heavier with assistance.
