Job Title: Substitute Teacher (As Needed) Location: Knoxville Montessori School – Knoxville, TN About Us Knoxville Montessori School is an independent, nonprofit Montessori school serving children ages 3 through 18. Rooted in the Montessori philosophy, our classrooms foster independence, creativity, and a love of learning in a nurturing environment. Position Overview We are seeking reliable, flexible substitute teachers to support our classrooms as needed throughout the school year. Substitutes will step into Montessori environments to assist with daily routines, provide classroom coverage, and ensure the safety and well-being of our students. Responsibilities Provide a caring and respectful presence in the classroom. Supervise children and ensure their safety at all times. Follow teacher plans, school routines, and classroom guidelines. Support the Montessori environment by maintaining order and assisting students as needed. Communicate effectively with staff and administrators. Qualifications Must be 21 years or older. High school diploma required; Associate’s degree or current enrollment in a Bachelor’s program preferred. Experience working with children ages 2–18 years old in an educational or care setting perfered. Understanding of child development and interest in Montessori philosophy. Reliable, organized, and self-motivated with a strong sense of teamwork. Clear and compassionate communicator (both verbal and written). Ability to adapt to changing needs and schedules with a positive attitude. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Dependable, punctual, and professional. Montessori experience a plus, but not required. Schedule & Compensation Part-time, as-needed position. School day hours vary depending on classroom needs (generally between 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM, with occasional aftercare coverage until 5:30 PM).
